your hunger for the evening. Many
games for the children will be there
for their entertainment.
"St. John's appreciates so much
the contribution by the entire com-
munity of Hondo to the success of
these annual carnivals.
We feel we sponsor a fun, safe
evening for all the children, and
hope that we may continue this
event for many years to come," said
a spokesperson for the church.
Lorine Hackebeil and Rose Aelvoet
attended theTexans' War on Drugs
1991 Adult Leadership Conference
held in Austin Sept. 22-24.
Theme of this years' conference
was "Community Unity-Building
alliances for prevention”. Alcohol
and other drug use has become a
major threat to the well-being of
American people, especially the
youth. By enlisting ail citizens in
almost every community, the war is
being fought in Texas through drug
use prevention.
Conference goals were;
• To raise the awareness level of
all attendees about the diverse and
growing problems associated with
the use of illegal drugs, understand
ing that alcohol is a drug and is il-
legal for anyone under the age of
21.
• To provide a forum from which
representatives of successful pro-
grams and activities may share
ideas, strategies and experiences to
take action to impact the local
level.
The annual Fall Luncheon spon-
sored by Medina County Extension
Homemakers Council will be Tues-
day, Oct. 22 at St. John's Parish
Hall in Hondo. The public is in
vited to this special event.
The Hondo High School Choral
• To train participants to make a
commitment, organize a commu-
nity coalition to prevent the use of
alcohol and other drugs by youth
on the grass roots level.
• To recognize outstanding
model programs and leadership in
the war on drugs in Texas._
Lorine and Rose attended various
workshops dealing with family,
school and community. Other
workshops were designed for law
enforcement, business and industry,
and public and assisted housing.
This conference is made possible
through funding by Texas Commis-
sion on Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
Texans' War on Drugs is jointly
funded by Texas Commission on
Alcohol and Drug Abuse and the
Criminal Justice division of the
Governor's Office.
HOT STAND was able to attend
this conference by the support of
the Medina County Sheriffs Office
Confiscation Fund.
"We appreciate the support we
are receiving from local organiza-
tions and out citizens," said the
110 i -S i AND leaders.
Group will provide entertainment
during the luncheon.

makers in the clubs will be recog-
