Mrs. Suehs also reported on the vari-
ous historical books CCHA is offer-
ing for sale to the public. Bertha
Brown of San Antonio gave door
prizes to Thelma Brucks and Gertie
Hester and recognized two in atten-
dance who are past 90, Clemens Fin-
ger, 92, and Agnes Oefinger, 94.
Refresments of Parisa, cottage
cheese cocktail spread, molasses
cookies, Pfeffemuesse and filled
pecan cookies were served by Hondo
members. All of the recipes were
from the CCHA cookbook, Old Fa-
vorite Recipes, and are recipes that
have been used by the families of
Medina county for generations.
Crackers, punch and coffee were
served also. The table, covered in
white, had as a centerpiece, an an-
tique lamp surrounded by ivy an vari-
egated zinnias just as a pioneer host-
ess might have used items from her
own garden. Hostesses wore old fash-
ioned dresses in keeping with the
day's theme.
Social chairmen were Vivian Zins-
meyer and Gerald and Betty Jo Hay.
They were assisted by other Hondo
members.
The fall meeting, comemorating
the 15th anniversary of the current
CCHA, will be inD'Hanis in Septem-
ber and visitors are welcome. Mem-
bers attended from Castroville,
D’Hanis, Hondo, Harlingen, Hous-
ton, Pipe Creek, Sabinal and San
Antonio.

the grandson of Mrs. Modesta
Chapa of Pearsall.
Jackie comes from a family of
lawyers, including her aunt Mary
Helen Berlanga, a prominent law-

Lee Barnes Barden of Hondo was
among the 1,571 Southwest Texas
State Uni /ersity students who were
candidates for degrees awarded in the
spring commencement ceremonies
May 11 and 12 in San Marcos.
Barden, son of Mr. and Mrs. James
E. Barden of Hondo, received a
bachelor of science in criminal justice
with a major in law enforcement. He
was a four-semester dean's list hon-
oree and served as a senator in the
