Tacky Day-If you were in the
facility on June 24, no, you were
not seeing tilings; it was meant to
be this way! Our staff was required
to dress tacky. The tackiest one
received a tacky prize. The voting
was by our musical trio, Bruce and
Company. Our Director of Nurses
won; she wore a lovely black slip
over her white uniform.
Vases-Usually vases on our
dinner tables are filled twice a week
by the contribution of flowers from
Dorothy's Flower Shop. For Flag
Day, Nora Winkler brought in her
lovely black vases filled with a red
and a blue flower, ferns and sprig of
wheat and a flag. It was a beautiful
arrangement which helped us
celebrate Flag Day.
New Saturday Activity-
-Mary Jane Saathoff has offered to
hold a Bingo-thon one Saturday a
month. The first one will be held
on July 16 at 9:30 a.m. Bingo is a

gathering. The socializing is as
important to our residents as the ice
cream. This will take place this
Saturday, July 9. On July 23, the
Woman's Missionary Union will do
the socializing with our residents
and serve ice cream. All our
residents are looking forward to a
happy Saturday gathering.

month are Refugia Gauna, 7-04-04;

ing line and 3 inch overhead distri-
bution lines to ■each of the truck
parking spaces. This evening we
also started modifying the baffles
and resealing the new 1050 gallon
tank on the Hot Shot truck.

EH club meets Tuesday
Remember the $250 Cookie
recipe of a few weeks ago with the
story about the lady that was
charged $250 for the recipe? Sarah
Greene of Gilmer sent me an article
from the June 5 Dallas Morning
News that sets the record straight
about that story. According to the
article, the story is just an "urban
myth." It's virtually the same story
that circulated in the 1930s about
the Red Velvet Cake and the
Waldorf Astoria. I had a feeling
that it was just a story, but true or
not, the cookies are wonderful! I
hope you've tried them.
With summer squash so plentiful
now, it's a great time to be fixing
squash casserole. Mrs. Roy
Tschirhart of Devine is sharing her
popular Squash Casserole recipe
with us this week. She says that
the recipe makes such a large
amount that she usually divides it
and bakes one and freezes the other
for later. She says it works fine
either baked and then frozen or
frozen first and baked later. If
you've got eight hungry people to
feed, though, just bake it as one
dish and don't worry about freezing!
Thanks, Mrs. Tschirhart, for
sharing your good recipe with all of
us.
Squash Casserole
1 cup butter or margarine.
12 oz. herb seasoned stuffing mix
3 cups sliced or diced cooked
squash (zucchini or crookneck)
1 can (10 1/2 oz.) cream of mush-
room or cream of chicken soup
1 cup sour cream
1 large onion, grated
3 large carrots, grated
1/2 cup celery, chopped or sliced
1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
Melt butter and toss with herb
stuffing mix. Mix half of stuffing
mixture with squash, soup, sour
cream, onions, carrots, celery, and
pepper. Turn mixture into lightly
greased 13 X 9 X 2-inch baking
dish and spread evenly. Sprinkle
remaining dressing mixture over
all. Bake in preheated 350° oven for
45 to 55 minutes. Makes 8
servings.
If you've got a favorite recipe
you’d like to share, or if you're
looking for a special recipe, I'd like
to hear from you. Just write to me,
Valerie Coyle; P.O. Box 2088;
Kerrville, TX 78029-2088. Please
include your name and address.
Happy Cooking!
After hearing an excellent
program last month on self esteem
presented by Gaye Bippert in the
home of Patsy Graff, members are
again looking forward to our next
meeting to be held July 12 in the
home of Kathy Carscadden where
Betty Gilliam will give the
program on "Communication-The
Tie that Binds."
Several members gathered
recently in the home of Adell
Jordan for the monthly Craft
Workday and were given a lesson
on calligraphy by Kathy
Carscadden.
The club welcomes visitors.
