That the bell is an instrument of great antiquity, being
spoken of by Hebrew writers, as in Exodus 28, where
golden bells are prescribed as appendages to the dress
of the high priest, so that notice may thus be given of his
approach to the sanctuary. Even to this day, bells are
rung to begin worship in some churches, in pursuance of
a custom founded on the ancient Hebrew use of the bell.
Larger bells are rung to summon people to worship
service, to announce the Angelus, to toll during funerals
and to peal on occasions of joy. Bells are often used in
movie sound tracks to signal the demise of a character.
Many Hondo area churches have a tradition of tolling the
church s bell the s&roe number of times as the deceased
person’s age at the conclusion of the funeral service or
on the way to the cemetery as the procession passes the
church.
Guinn-Honger Funeral Home has a bell system that can
be tolled after services held in the Guinn-Horger
Funeral Home Chapel or the toll can be started by
wireless remote as the funeral procession passes by in
front of the funeral home from a church without their own
bell: The carillon is also available to enhance memorial
services that are held in the Memorial Square in front of
the funeral home.
