Letters
from
the Mailbo:
Dear Mr. Lawrence:
Recently, the City of
Houston honored a native
of Hondo, my father, J.
Frank Jungman, by nam-
ing its newest Branch
Library in his honor.
I enclose a copy of the
pamphlet of the Library
and a Xerox copy of the
Commemorative Address
delivered by Mrs/* A. T.1
Carleton, President of the
Library Board of the City
of Houston. You may find
this newsworthy.
By the way, I was Vice
Chairman of the Harris
County Committee to
Preserve the Present
Texas Constitution and
appreciated your forth-
right stand against all
eight propositions. Many
heartfelt thanks!
Very cordially yours,
Y. Frank Jungman
P.S. Dad really loved
Hondo. He was constantly
working for its improve-
ment, with legislators and
through the Chamber of
Commerce. He fought the
Bv-Pass by Highway 90
which would have killed
his hometown. He
supported “Don’t Drive
Through It Like Hell,”
and hunting, and what
was once “Jungman
Park,” north of the SP at
the old site of the depot. A
constant booster.
A message from Hondo’s
Police Chief Gerald Keown
tss ASSOCIATION j
With the Christmas
holidays approaching,
many Hondo residents
will be leaving town. This
is the time of year when
most burglars and thieves
thrive on the easy “hits."
Before you leave on your
holiday trip, there are a
few simple precautions
that you can take to help
protect your home.
1) Stop all deliveries to
your home.
2) Don’t discuss your
absence in public. And
don’t give information
about your vacation to the
newspapers ahead of time
- wait until you return
home.
3) Put things such as
bicycles, lawn furniture,
lawn mowers, etc., away
before you leave.
4) Move your valuables
so that they cannot be
seen through the
windows.
5) Leave a light on
inside the house and out-
side.
6) Notify a trusted
neighbor to keep an eye on
your home.
7) Notify the Police that
you will be away.
If you live within the
city limits of Hondo, the
Hondo Police Department
will make inspection of
vour home at irregular
intervals, if you so
request. To obtain this
service, just call 426-2215,
before you depart.
Your Police Depart-
ment's primary job is to
protect you and your
property - but the police
cannot be everywhere at
once. They need your
cooperation and support
to do their job effectively.
Let the Police Department
help you have a safe and
merry Christmas.

ENOUGH COMMENTS
. . . have been made in response to my dialogue
on football ticket sales to indicate to me that the
general public feels some definite polidee should
be set next year. So, we won’t say any more until
next year when the need arises for a change.
MY GOOD FRIEND
. . . Robert “ Yeller Dog" Marsh of San Antonio
is trying his darndest to go down in the record
books. And on chili cooking of all things. It seems
he is striving to cook the biggest pot of chili that's
ever been brewed.
And he’s doing it all this weekend. December 13
and 14, at Twin Lakes in Lytle. He’ll have a
caldron, that’s a fancy name for a pot, which
measures i feet by 8 feet by 15 inches and he
intends to make 50(1 pounds of chili in it. Bob says
it will take a 10 foot fire trench and a cord ol
Mesquite.
When it's nil done, he plans to send the Tacts to
the Guinness Book of World Records, hoping,
Thereby, to go down in black and white for the
world to see -• or maybe after 500 pounds of chili
he'll go down in living color. Good brewing to you.

The Internal Revenue Service, through the HNB/IRA
plan, lets you pay into your account up to 15% of your
income to a yearly maximum of $1500. All the money you
put into your account each year “comes off the top” of
your income and is therefore a legitimate tax deduction.
At age 65 [or 59* ? minimum, 70l/i maximum] you begin to
take out your retCement funds, and this amount will be
taxed then... probacly much less than your tax structure
