This Is to express out sin-
cere thanks to the friendly
people In your town and sur-
rounding community.
Just recently we Coloradt-
ans, Audi and Jean Startup
from Aspen, and Charles and
Myrtle Phelps made a wild
hog hunt near Yancey on the
Glenn Crane Ranch. Being
archer fans and making a
movie on wild life, we chose
that area for the hunt.
We were strangers when
we arrived In your town. But
we weren’t strangers long.
We went to the City Chamber
of Commerce, where we met
the nicest people. They
gave us all the Information
and advice, along with bro-
chures of points of interest.
which we appreciated very
much.
We stayed at the White
Tall Lodge, one of the nicest
Lodges and best managers In
the State.
Despite the fact, we were
told the hogs were vicious
and would attack, especially
since we were bow hunters,
we were uncertain but we
found this true. For the hogs
charged. We ran, jumped
and yelled to keep from being
struck.
Luck was with us and we
managed to get a good clean
shot. And we each brought
home our meat. Maurice
Chambers from Pleasanton
and Glenn Crane, from the
Crane Ranch, were our guides,
and are two very patient

guides, good fellows.
We were fortunate In
meeting Mr. and Mr* Alvin
Wiemers In your community,
who Invited us to their home.
Being sportsmen and outdoors-
men, showed us some beauti-
ful slides of their hunting
trips.
The welcome sign just
out of Hondo is so amazing.
We filmed It also. It makes
good horse sense. Every city
should have one like this.
All In all our trip was a
very pleasant trip due to the
fact we were In a friendly
town with friendly people
who care. Words cannot ex-
press our thanks and appreci-
ation to you good people.
Sincerely,
Charles & Myrtle

Dear Editor,
Glad you sent me the re-
newal slip. I will not be re-
newing the paper for Miss
Stella Stone, because I had a
letter from Roy Stone's wife.
Since I saw her last Novem-
ber she has gone almost
blind and can hardly hear
any more. She asked me to
send whatever I sent to her
home as Miss Stone has been
removed from her place In
Arlington to a rest home.
Sure hate It as she enjoyed
the paper in spite of so many
new names she did not know.
So, will not send her the
paper any more. I sent it to
Miss Stone last year but no
need to any more, she can't

DIRTY SHOES
. . . seem to be a problem at times at the
Glenn Bragg home. But young David Bragg
gave his mother, Jolyn, the solution the
other day.
"I wish we lived in Japan, he said,
"Why?" his mother questioned.
"Well, it sure would make you happy,
because aver there they have to pull off
their shoes before entering the house."
DEER PROCESSING
. . . keeps everyone at Super Sav busy, or
so it would seem. Richard Finger said last
week they had processed and stored more
than 110 deer so far. The heaviest weighed
139 pounds and the largest number of points
were 11. "I'm sure others have processed
more," Richard said. "But these have kept
us busy."
DID YOU KNOW
. . . that coon hides are bringing $3.50
each? Shades of East Texas when my snuff-
dipping kinfolk use to run their trap lines;
that's a good hunk of green for a hide.
But notice the ad in this ussue of the
Anvil Herald and you can see the D&W Fur
Company representative comes around to the
Ytuarte 66 Station at Highway 90 and Ave.
F and he'll pay that for coon hides plus 50
cents for the coon meat providing it follows
specifications. He'll also pay $4.25 for
coyote hides and $4.75 for Red Fox.
Now, he seems to think this is a good
way for high school boys to earn spending
money.
Maybe so. If he says so, and the boys
(or men) go along, who am I to disagree.
One thing for sure, if a few take him up on
this offer then the varmint population cer-
tainly should decrease.
THE NAME OF HONDO
. . . gets around the world in many ways,
but one of the most consistant means is pro-
vided by the advertising of Medina Agri-
culture Products.
Jack Megasen and Arthur Franke the
name of Medina and Hondo Texas goes on
every box of tomatoes shipped by O . P .
Murphy & Sons of Gonzales, California.
Annually the company ships millions of
boxes of tomatoes to points in the 50 states,
Canada and Mexico.
"In fact," Megasen pointed out, "the
quality of tomatoes grown with Medina was
so good, Murphy's began air freighting them
to New York for fast resale."
Jack and Arthur also tell me their busi-
ness is growing by leaps and bounds. And
to that I say--"excellent!" We love to see
local industries grew.
TWO MORE
. . . members have joined the Hondo
Chamber of Commerce family and are wel-
comed aboard. They are Francis Richter,
attorney; and Primos Co. (Woody Glass-
cock) .
