Hondo is about to house another big department store,
according to a Page 5 story in the 7 11 ANVIL HERALD.
Maybe Hondo is making itself such an attractive
BUSINESS CENTER that more businesses will be drawn
to “God'S Country. ”
Maybe folks from the Big City will help Hondoans to
feel more inclined to Try Hondo Stores FIRST.

W hat eventful lives some Hondoans must have led on
JULY 25, any year. I checked my Community Calendar
for facts...and not a creature was stirring not even a
mouse!
But, looking ahead just a few days, I noted that
TITIAN 1 JENISE JA) will be at least a whole year
older on Sunday, July 29th.
I his will be a BIG event for her, her devoted parents,
her grandparents, RENO AND ELSIE STANGA, and her
twin uncles whose names I cannot remember. Ask them,
Tiffany. They'll know. And have a VERY HAPPY
birthday.
**********
How on earth did Mrs. JAKE SCHUEHLE find time to.
break a hipLSince I have known her she has been always
busy, busy. To save me I cannot remember her given
name but I think it is Rosalyn. I even called one of the
Corpus Christi Shelys who referred me to Mrs. J.G.
Carver, whom I called but there was no answer.
If Rosy will settle for this means of identification, 1
want her to know that my wishes for her prompt recovery
took a round and a round-about way to get to her but they
gathered in terest en route: And, if I chose the wrong name
for her...What's in a name? I'll skip this quotation
|credited to Romeo, 1 think] and quote Gertrude Stein
"Rose is a rose is a rose is a rose" Good wishes raised to
the 4th power.

By reading about what the Hondo City Council did at
its last meeting. I learned that GENE HARRISON will
join the tour to Montreal in September. Mighty pretty
country over thataway, but keep the folks over there
mindful of HONDO’S plus points too, which should
include the fact that LILLIAN PORTER is doing'an A -4-
job as Executive Secretary of the HONDO Chamber of
Commerce.

The Sunny Side
of Friendship Villa
By Evelyn Grell
The Lord is good; his
love is eternal and his
faithfulness lasts forever.
(Psalm 100-5)
Since I was on vacation
last week, 111 try to catch
you up on happenings at
Friendship Villa the past
two weeks.
There were two birthday
parties. On July 10, the
family of Euna McEntyre
honored her with a party on
her 81 birthday. Delicious
strawberry cake and coffee
were served to all resi-
dents.
On July 19, the family of
Adolph Schneider honored
him with a birthday party
on his 86 birthday. There
were refreshments of cake
punch & party favors. All
residents and staff enjoyed
this delicious treat.
The ladies from Bethle-
hem ALCW were on hand
the past week to hold a sing
along for our residents.
This is always an event our
residents look forward to.
While talking to Eleen
Saathoff, it seems the sing-
ing lasted over an hour and
some residents would have
sung the rest of the after-
noon. Thanks to all of you
who helped make this a
success.
Without the help of
Evagene Schweers our
residents would not have
been able to work on crafts.
They have been busy with
ceramics and also making
Christmas ornaments. We
are hoping to have a cera-
mic safe soon, as our finish-
ed ware is stacking up.
Many thanks to Evagene
for coming to help our
residents the past two
weeks.
Our neighbors were also
very helpful with garhes
and exercise the past week.
Brenda Saathoff was here
each morning to have exer-
cises with our residents.
From all reports she did an
excellent job and everyone
got their exercise.
Mrs. Mary Jane Saathoff,
Mr. & Mrs. Bill Williams,
Mary Muennink, and
Monnie Thompson carried
on the games for us during
the week. With all reports
the games went very
smoothly and everyone en-
joyed them.
What can I say but
thank-you to all of our find
Neighbors and our staff for
making the week a happy
and busy one for our resi-
dents. I appreciate all the
time and help very much.

Keep

By Gene Smith
it has been said that people today will give money
to all kinds of charities. They won't spare any time,
but they will donate money to churches, hospitals, i
youth programs - every kind of cause: it makes them >
feel good to think that they had a part in some great
work. This generosity goes beyond the 'lax angle.’ It
Religious teachers of all sorts knov.- this. They
know it -- you know it - they know that you know it I
and you know that they know it! Many of these i
preachers, ministers, and so-called reverends’ take
full advantage of the situation. They know that not
only do most people want to help, hut that many of
these same people have something they feel guilty j
about-and that it makes them "feel” better about^
themselves to give large sums of money (it sooths
their troubled consciences and eases their tension.)
Some of the religious leaders are sincere. They
rationalize their constant pleas for money (thru
radio, T.V., newspapers, magazines, etc.) this way:
i"It makes the people feel closer to God, the money
[helps the church: therefore, it is the right thing to
'do.’’ Others see the pulpit as as ‘get-rich-quick’
'scheme, pocketing the donations, thus furthering
their favorite charities (themselves)!
I hope that by now you have noticed that in the 2
years I have been writing this column, I have never
once, asked for your money. Furthermore, I do not
intend to. I don’t want your money, the 16th St.
Church of Christ doesn’t want it, and the Lord
doesn’t want it either! He wants YOU not YOURS.
God’s way of dealing with a troubled conscience is
thru the blood of Christ (Heb. 9:14). I has nothing to
do with dollars and cents. No amount of money, large
or small can buy the gift of God (Acts 8:20). Those
who pocket the free-will contributions of others will
have to account for their actions in the day of
judgment (Rom. 2:5-9).
The one gift that you can give to God is YOU!'
