CHRISTMAS IS A TIME
...for rejoicing. It's a time for
paying tribute to the birth of
Jesus Christ. It is a time to
express love to our fellow man and
woman.
There is no doubt but that at
this time of the year we seem to
mellow and take on a more
tolerant feeling for everyone we
know or meet. We seem to grow
taller as we express our love for
other human beings through
verbal expressions, through
messages printed on cards and
through the giving of special gifts
to those we hold dear.
Christmas is a time for children,
young or old. It is a time for the
older generation to express their
love and devotion to their children
and grandchildren. In this expres-
sion they help to recall the days
when they, too, were young and
filled with high expectations that
Old St. Nick would answer their
deares for special gifts. So they
make certain their young ones
realize those desires.
Christmas brings families closer
together, even those who may be
separated by great distances, or,
in some instances, by a falling-out
that has brought about a separa-
tion. It is a time that makes the
heart grow a little closer for fond
times that happened before
distance or feelings caused a
separation.
Santa Claus may be a myth--I
don’t know for I’ve never really
made up my mind to that
effect-but he still serves as a
binding miracle that once a year
brings hearts closer together
around the lands where the birth
of Christ is observed.
With all this in mind we wish
our readers, and their friends who
do not have the pleasure of
reading our paper, a Merry, Merry
Christmas.
RAY WOLFF
...of D’Hanis brought by a
copy of a letter-to-the-editor
published recently in the San
Antonio Light, and I must say he
was justifiably upset at the
information contained in that
letter.
It concerned the signing of two
United Nations treaties by
President Jimmy Carter. The
United Nations Covenant on Civil
and Political Rights and the
United Nations Covenant on
Economic, Social and Cultural
Rights both were signed by
ft-esident Carter and are subject
to the ratification by the United
States Senate.
These covenants specifically
exclude private property as a
human right.’Both the U.N.
treaties permit government
seizure of propa-ty without any
kind of compensation.
This is in violation of our
Constitution. The 5th Amend-
ment states that we cannot be
deprived of property without due
process of law and our property
cannot be taken for public use
without just oompoisation.
President Carter’s signature
authorizes the expropriation of
any property considered as neces-
sary or desirable by any member
state, that is, any country that is
a member of the United Nations.
These two treaties were first
adopted in 1948, but have been
unsigned by every administration
since that date. President Carter
gave them his blessing.
They should never be ratified
by the Senate, believes Ray Wolff
and all other property owners in
Medina County and elsewhere.,
The right to own property is a
right that has been the corner-
stone of our free nation and this
right should not be signed away
by a president whose zeal to
expouse his belief on human
rights is lending as down danger-
ous paths.
You might write Senators John
Tower and Lloyd Bentsen your
concerns on this matter.
IT GRIPES ME
...to report this fact, but I
guess it will be painless after its
over.
Football season, with the excep-
tion of the bowl clashes, is over, so
that means our little predicting
game here at the Anvil H erald has
once again bit the dust.
How did we come out? I wish I
didn’t have to say. But Cheryl
Gary, riding a fantastic streak of
feminine luck came out ahead with
some 63 percent of her 'guesses.
Terry Teague was next with 54
percent. And guess who came in
last with 53 percent. I’ll never tell.
THERE SEEMS TO BE
... a difference of opinion in
the reports on why the Commis-
sion ers Court wanted to know how
much County Attorney Hunter
Schuehle was doing about county
business.
Two newspapers in the pea
have been quick to report>that
there had been any feeling of
“wondering what is being done”
being termed as “being on the
outs” with the County Attorney.
First reported over Radio
Station KRME and then repeated
in this newspapa-, the report still
stands as it was written. As to
yet. I haven’t had a Commissioner
nor the County Judge come and
House of Representatives in the
State Capitol. A reception will
follow in the Thompson Building.
Chartered buses will leave the
County Courthouse in Hondo at
6:30 a.m. on the morning of
January 3rd. Cost will be $8 per
person on a first-come-first-served
basis. Two buses have been charter-
ed and will accommodate 47
passengers each.
County Judge Jerome Decker is
spearheading the effort to get as
many of Poerner’s friends as
possible to the ceremony.
Reservations may be made by
contacting the County Judge’s
office, 426-2352. Payment should be
made in advance and will be
refunded in case of a cancellation.

Local businesses and offices will
enjoy two Monday holidays within
the next two weeks.
From what can be determined in
a survey, Hondo will be locked up
tighter than a drum on Monday,
December 26. the day following
Christmas. And it is expected to be
closed again on Monday, January
2, the day after New Year's Day.
Hondo Independent School
District classes will not be held on
January 2 despite the fact school
was originally scheduled to open
after the Christmas holidays on
that day. School will now open on
the morning of January 3.
