FOLKS AT CASTROVILLE
. . . sure know how to throw a Chamber of
Commerce banquet. Patricia and I repre-
sented the Hondo Chamber of Commerce af
the Alsatian City's annual event Monday
evening and had a wonderful time.
We met a lot of friendly neighbors, en-
joyed a fine meal, heard a good talk’and
joined in the pride felt by all when some-
well-deserved awards were presented'. *
Elmer Kosub, gthletic director at St;
Mary's University, talked on the subject
"Thank You, America", t.he central theme
of which was "anyone in America can a-
chieve success if they have and exercise
Persistence, Initiative and Enthusiasm.
"But without them," he says, "you have
the many ills which beset our society to-
day. "

Castroville from Lawrence-Welk, whose

Ice laden limbs

Everything got a little cold around
Hondo last week and this tree pretty
well tells the story. On Thursday
morning, January .11, everything lay
under a gentle blanket of snow. But
the snow was all that was gentle as
temperatures went down to as low as
25 degrees and road: turned into
dangerous ^strips of ice. Everything
Stopped inqjjpding school for two-
days. That is, everything except
the children who enjoyed playing in
the snow, something they rare.ly get
to do in this part of the state . (Photo
