Hondo High School’s annual sum-
mertime assistant coaching shuffle
continued during the past week, with
one coach coming and one going.
Jeff Stivors is the district’s latest
hire. A 1990 graduate of Medina
Valley High School, Stivors will be
a varsity assistant football coach,
working with the offensive and de-
fensive lines. He takes the place of
Mike Fox, who was recently named
head football coach at Natalia.
Jeff Doege is the coach leaving
Hondo. A two-year assistant who
coached junior high athletics and
junior varsity baseball, Doege, a La
Vemia native, has taken a job in Falls
City. He will be a varsity assistant in
football season, and is the school’s
new head baseball coach.
Stivors comes to Hondo after
spending the last year as an assistant
coach in Banquete, where Butch Por-
ter, a former HHS athletic director,
is the head football coach. Stivors
spent the spring of 1998 as an assis-
tant coach at Kingsville Academy,
following his graduation from Texas
A&M-Kingsville.
An All-Lone Star Conference se-
lection at linebacker in 19% for the
Javelinas, Stivors is also slated to
coach freshman basketball and will
probably be a baseball assistant, ac-
cording to HHS Athletic Director
Jack Rushing.
