Keeping an eye on Texas
June weddings don’t take the cake
f~ Jphe traditional notion of June
J weddings doesn't fit the most
recent figures. For the first time in
the 1990s, more Texans
married in March 1997
than any other month,
topping the chart at ^
21,118.

Cheerful Chatter from Community Care Center
Happy Father’s Day and “Hi”
from all of us at CCC. Last Wednes-
day residents enjoyed watching the
line dancers perform. Looks like
fun! We thank them for coming ev-
ery month. On Thursday we held our
monthly Birthday party for the resi-
dents with a June birthday. Can you
believe! we have two residents who
will be 101 years young this month.
What a blessing. They are Francisco
Navarro and Meta Weynand. What
stories they could tell! Also celebrat-
ing were Eglah Nester and Hazel
Conrad.
June 6 was the birthday of Donald
Duncan, the man who trademarked
the word “yo-yo". We took the resi-
dents outdoors where they watched
Richard Jones and Shantel Duarte do
tricks with their yo-yo.
Then on Thursday we loaded up
several willing residents into our van
and took a scenic tour down FM 462
S to Yancey and then proceeded on
FM 2200 to D’Hanis. The residents
enjoyed seeing the countryside and
were glad to “get out” for a while.
By Dorothy Fowler
On Friday wc were entertained by
Ms. Elizabeth Raute playing waltzes
on the piano. Fr. VinCent came dug
afternoon to hold his last mass fcf
the residents. We wish him” Go}
Speed” on his retirement. Thank you
Fr. Vincent for your faithful com-
mitment in serving our residents. :
Monday, June 14, National Fl4g
Day, found the facility decorated
with flags. Thanks to the First Bap-
tist Church for having bible study
with the residents. In the afternoon,
Ronnie Mason came and played his
guitar and sang some old favorites
for us. We enjoy singing along with
him. Thanks Ronnie!
Reminder: Sunday, June 20 at 3
p.m. will be the ice cream social for
Father's Day. See you there!! £
Our sympathy to the family of
Irene Balzen. We will miss her and
her family. God bless you.
The next time you visit us at CCC
stop by and say Hello to Irene
Cuellar, the new activity assistant.
She is a welcome addition to our
staff.
