Bartlett Bulldogs
Win Points At
State Track Meet
The Bartlett Bulldogs picked
np some state meet points in
Austin Friday and Saturday by
placing third in the mile relay.
Bartlett ran a 3:26.1.
Bartlett was the defending
Class B State Champion. The
championship was won this year
by Booker a team from the Pan-
handle. Last year the Bulldogs ran a
3:25.5 in winning the event.
Booker won with a 3.23.9
which is a Class B record. Stock-
dale finished second in the
event.
Composing the mile relay for
Coach James Crews are Donny
"Schwertner Ricky Brock Car-
roll Kauitzsch and Phil Lind-
say. Kenneth Janice was the al-
ternate. Crews said "Kenneth
worked hard this year and we
hope that by next year he'll be
running a good quarter.
Farm Bureau To
Meet Thursday
The Williamson County Farm
Bureau will meet Thursday at
the Bartlett grammar school be-
ginning at 8 p. m.
John Wakefield county agent
will tell about the progress the
BIG program has made in the
past year.
Ed McKay assistant legisla-

Bureau will also be present to
explain the Farm Bureau polic-
ies. Henry Marek community
president urged all members to
be present and invites anyone
else who would like to attend.
Golden Circle Has
25th Anniversary
Monday the Golden Circle
Class of the First Baptist
Church celebrated its 25th
birthday anniversary at the
Gourmet in Temple;.
The banquet table was dec-
orated with placecards of birth-
day hats and centered with a
rose bouquet. There were . 11
present.
Mrs. Charles Isabel gave the
opening prayer. The history of
the class was read by Mrs.
James Crews. Mrs. W. R. Bunk-
er III introduced the guest
.speaker Mrs. Charles Wise of
'Temple who spoke on "The
.Home." Mrs. Bunker presented
the guest speaker with a gift
from the class. Mrs. Cecil Over-
by gave the closing prayer.

Democrats Meet
hi Area Saturday
County Democrats met in
Georgetown and Belton Satur-
day morning. Sessions were
mostly peaceful but sometimes
loud.
Named as delegates to the
state and national conventions
were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ford
Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Czarowitz
and Miss Martha Schrock.
Wilson Fox presided over the
Williamson County session.
Most debate resulted from a
minority report of the Resolu-
tions Committee brought in by
W. K. McClain.
Chief among McClain's pro-
posals was a resolution calling
for the support of the Demo-
cratic nominees and the unwrit-
ten platform of the National
Democratic Convention.
A substitute resolution was
offered by K. L. McConchie for
one reported out of the Resolu-
tions Committee in a tie vote.
The accepted resolution en-
dorsed the candidacies of Sen-
ator Ralph Yarborough and
Congressman J. J. Pickle and
commended them for their ser-
vice in Congress.
Two other resolutions one a
memorial to President Kennedy
and another endorsing the tick-
et and supporting Governor
Connally were reported favor-
ably and were also accepted.
The tate convention will be
held in Houston June 16.

Twirlers Named
Drum major and twirlers
have been selected for Bartlett
High School for 1964-65.

daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V. C.
Marshall and Judy Schwertner
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar
Schwertner.
Claude F. Wilson of Wichita
Kansas is visiting this week
with Mrs. Frank Wilson.

ounces in a Temple hospital
last Wednesday evening.

Association Has J
Meeting Tuesday
Bartlett was host to the Cap-
itol lArea Water and Sewer As
sociation meeting Tuesday night
at the American Legion Hall.
Berry Johnson of -Dallas
spoke on electrolysis and Pete
Holt of Bartlett gave an explan-
ation of the defloridation plant.
There were 89 who registered
for the monthly meeting of the
association from Bastrpp
Round Rock. Tavlor. Granger.

Coach James Crews announc-
ed nine Bartlett High School
track lettermen this week. -
They are seniors Carroll Kau-
itzsch Phil Lindsay and Gar-
land Wentrcek; juniors Scotty
Holt Kenneth Janke and Larry
Grigsby and sophomores Ricky
Brock Bobby Haynes and Don-
ny Schwertner.
Other boys participating were

There were 18 boys in the
track program and all. stayed
with it. To letter a boy must
)lace in the district meet.
Janke and Holt are the only
.wo to receive jackets since the
jthers have received awards in
either football or track.
Crews stated "I was pleased
with our track program this
year but good competition is
what really makes anything'
worth while to participate in.
"I would like to thank all the
people that have supported us
this year in track and all sports.
It's good to be a winner but we
can't kid ourselves someone has
to lose.
"Good loyal support from
fans like you gives an athletic
program added incentive.
Thank you."
Former Resident
Dies In Brownwood
A former resident Mrs. (An-
nie M. Keeton 90 died in a
Brownwood nursing home Tues-
day after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be con-
ducted at 2 p. ni. Thursday ai

with Rev. Billy Tiller officiat-
ing. he was born in Washington
County Jan. 25 1874 and lived
in the Davilla Community for
more than 50 years and in Bart-
Iflt for more than six years be-

Burial will be in the Davilla
Cemetery.
Mrs. Keeton was preceded in
tenth by her husband William
Doe) Keeton in 1954. She was
a member of the Baptist
Church.

TO MEET TUESDAY
Tuesday the Bartlett Bar-
racks will meet at the American
Legion Hall at 7:30 p. m. Mem
bers are urged to be present.
Two Bartlett Men
Injured In Wreck
Frank Wolf and Buck Cowart
were injured in a one car wreck
near Holland late Sunday night.
Cowart received a gash on the
chin. Wolf received a broken
leg and cuts and bruises and is
in a Temple hospital.
Cowart was at the wheel of
his car south of Holland and
his brakes failed as he
approached Highway 95. The
car was extensively damaged.
Contributions To
Cancer Drive
In Area Are $363
There has been $363 contrib-
uted to the Cancer Drive in this
area so far this year. The drive
is drawing to a close.
Mrs. Cy Young drive chair-
man states that these who have
not been contacted and wish to
contribute may do so by con-
tacting her or mailing their
contribution.
Mrs. Young will attend a Can-
cer Drive meeting in Taylor
Thursday night.
Funeral Services
Held Wednesday
For Walter Braun
Funeral services were held
for Walter F. Braun 75 Wed-
nesday afternoon at 3 p! m. He
died in a Temple' hospital Tues-
day morning after an extended
illness.
Services were held at St. John
Lutheran Church with the Rev.
F. L. Bracher officiating. Burial
was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Braun was born in Wal-
b'irg March 17 1889 the son
of the late Adolph and Anna
Braun. He was baptized and
confirmed at an early age at St.
Peter's Lutheran Church.
He was united in marriage to
Helena Haas in 1910 and to
this union three children were
born. They are Edwin Braun of
Dallas Mrs. Emil C. Mazoch of
Bartlett and William R. Braun
of Waco. Mrs. Braun died in
1931.
In 1938 Braun was united in
marriage to Mrs. Henry Kunz.
He is survived by his children
and three step children Hugo
Kunz and Mrs. Raymond Wen-
trcek of Bartlett and Mrs. Ira
White of Lake Jackson ten
grandchildren and four great
grandchildren; two brothers. A.
G. Braun of Georgetown and A.
C. A. Braun of Bartlett three
sisters Mrs. Felix Bredthauer
and Mrs. Otto Liese of Walburg
and Mrs. Annie Zander of Bart-
lett. He moved to Bartlett in 1918
and had made his home here
since that time. He was a groc-
eryman most of his life and op-
erated Uncle Walt's Grocery un-
til his retirement four years
ago.
Pallbearers were grandsons.
Local Riding Club
To Participate
In Frontier Days
The Town and Cpuntry Rid-
ing Club will participate in
Frontier Days to be held in
Rockdale June 5-6.
Miss Linda Garrett will par-
ticipate in the queen contest in
Rockdale and the club will also
participate in the parade which
will be held Saturday June 6
at 10 a. ro
The club will sponsor a play
xy horse show at the Davilla
arena on Sunday June 14. De-
tails will be announced later.

Pool Total 60
There were GO Bartlett fam-
ilies who purchased family
memberships in the Bartlett
Swimming Pool before the
deadline Sunday according ta
Curtis Saage chairman of the
Chamber of Commerce commit-
tee. The pool will open May 23.
These memberships will allow
a family to swim free all this
summer.
It was announced this week
that grammar school principal
R. E. Bunker will operate the
pool for the City this summer.
Phil Lindsay will be the life-
guard. Those purchasing 1964 fam-

Women Meet Friday
The American Lutheran
Church Women of St. John Lu-
theran Church had a mother-
daughter banquet Friday even-
ing at the church.
A covered dish meal was en-
joyed by 59 members and 2S
visitors. The meal was followed
by a piano duet presented by
Miss Lana Kunz and Miss Mar
jorie Fischer.
