blamed for a one-car accident at 7

bound when a rabbit ran out in
front of the car. the driver told

in 2003. according to the State
Comptroller s Office
According to final figures from
200.3. the county s mixed beverage
tax allocation totaled $26,946.
down from $29,046 in 2002.

By law. all mixed beverage and
private club permit holders remit to
the State Comptroller s Office a 14
percent gross receipts tax on their
mixed beverage sales each month
Following the end of each calendar
quarter. 10 714.3 percent of the lax
paid is allocated to the county
where each business is located For
any business located within an in-
corporated city, another 10 7143
percent of the tax paid is allocated
to the city where it is located The
remaining tax is distributed to the
State's General Rev enue Fund
The mixed beverage allocation to
the City of Liv ingston rose slightly
in 2003 to $1,499. compared to
$1,319 in 2002 Livingston's 2003
allocation, however, is down from
the $1,856 received in 2(H) 1 and tlic
$2,378 received in 2000.
The City of Onalaska s 2003
mixed drink allocation is down
only slightly from the previous
year Onalaska received $10.20.3
from mixed drink sales in 2003.

Amounts are still higher than those
received in 2001 ($8,796) and in
2000 ($9,501).
The oniy other incorporated area
in the county that receives a mixed
beverage allocation is Seven Oaks,
which received $2,765 in 2003. up
slightly from the $2.65.3 received in
2002. In 2001 Seven Oaks received
$2,775 and in 2000 the citi re-
ceived $2,617
Statewide, the mixed beverage
allocation continues to climb each
year In 2003. the state s allocation
was $321.1 million, compared to
$315.3 million in 2002. In 2001.
the state receiv ed $303 million and
in 2000 the total was $28.3 7 mil-

members of the West Texas
A&M University Symphonic
Band that will continue a tradi-
tion when it takes to the stage
Feb. 12 at the Lila Cockrell
Theatre in the Henry Gonzalez
Convention Center in San Anto-
nio.

Texas Music Educators Associa-
tion (TMEA) convention - a
number unrivaled by any other
university band to date. The
group, under the direction of Don
Lcfevre. associate professor of
music, will perform a full concert
before an estimated crowd of
2.500. _ *
Performances at the TMEA
convention are by invitation only
and the WTAMU band is one of
three university bands invited to
play this year. Bands invited to
perform are selected by concert
recordings submitted by univer-
sity directors across the state.
Bands are eligible to perform
once every four years.
The TMEA performance will
top off a four-concert tour in
which Gilbert and her fellow
symphonic band members will
participate. The tour will kick off
with two performances. Feb. 10-
11. at Robert E. Lee High School
in Midland The group will them
head to Brady High School in
Brady. The tour will also include
a stop at Warren High School in
San Antonio for another concert
prior to closing the tour at the
TMF.A convention
LEGGETT - A special called
meeting of the Board of Trustees of
the Leggett Independent School
District is slated for 6:30 pm
Monday
The board will enter into an ex-
ecutive session to deliberate a res-
ignation: discipline/altemative edu-
cation program placements; em-
ployment/assignment of personnel;
and the sick leave/travel policy.
Following discussion in closed
session, the board will reconvene in
open session for any possible ac-
tion
