Boys, Girls Club
directors to meet
LIVINGSTON - The Board Of
Directors of the Boys & Girls Club
of Polk County will meet at noon
Tuesday at Texas Pepper.
All board members are encour-
aged to attend and anyone inter-
ested in learning more about the
club is also welcome to attend.
Polk County Cares, said the
coalition learned about the passive
alcohol sensors from reports of its
use, and subsequent success, in a
county in California.
‘That’s where we got the idea.
Hopefully, the sensors will catch on
here and our law enforcement
agencies will see the positive
benefits,” Owens said.
She believes the device will
prove beneficial in two ways. First,
alcohol use among teens might be
deterred as word spreads of the
sensor’s use. Secondly, law
enforcement officers will not have
to rely on their own sense of smell
to detect a presence of alcohol in a
vehicle.
“Our focus is to decre_ase
drunken driving in general, I at
particularly among underage
drinkers,” Owens said.
Each department will use the
PAS for two weeks and then rotate
it to the other agencies.
The sensor will be used by all
law enforcement agencies in Polk
County, including the Texas
Highway Patrol, Polk County
Sheriffs Office and the police
departments of Corrigan,
Livingston and Onalaska.
If use of the device proves
successful, as Owens expects it will
be, the coalition hopes to acquire
more devices to distribute.
Chuck Staton, president of the
Polk County Peace Officers
Association, believes the sensor
will be useful.
“Every little bit helps when you
are trying to keep drunks off the
road,” Staton said.
Tor comfort to Joyce Sefix, loving wife of Leroy Sefix who
passed away on August 17, 2004 Livingston, tfitxas
When I am gone, release me, let me go I have so many things to
see and do You must not tie yourself to me with tears, be hapy
that we had so many years.
I gave to you my love, you can only guess how much you gave to
me in happiness, I thank you for the love you have shown, but now
it’s time I traveled on alone.
So grieve awile for me, if grieve you must, then let your grief be
comforted by trust. It s only a little while that we must part, so bless
the memories within your heart.
I won’t be far away, for life goes on. So if you need, call
and I will come, though you can’t see or touch me, I’ll be
near and if you listen with your heart you’ll hear.
All of my love around you soft and clean. And then, when
you must come this way alone, I’ll greet you with a smile
and welcome you home.
