TWO NEGROES ARRESTED
FOR HIJACKING ANOTHER
Two Negroes, giving their
names as John Carter of Spring
Hill, La., and Solomon John-
son of Monroe, La., were ar-
rested. Monday night by local
officers for an alleged hijack-
ing of. Otis Williams, another
Megro. said to be irom Texar-
kana/. Williams claimed that
ifce other two, af the point cf
a pistol, forced him to give
them his watch, two rings and
a small satchel of clothing.
The holdup took place near the
Cotton Belt machine shops in
tMe south part of town, and the
two Negroes later hopped a
iaeight to the north part of
town, where they were arrest-

Cambridge, Mass., May 18.—
A divorce was. granted Walter
T. Searles, 32, of Melrose Mon-
day.
He testified that when he
married in 1924 his wife told
him she was 24. Since then,
said, ho learned that her first
marriage was in 1904—the
vear he was born—and that in
realitv she is now about 60.
Miss Opal Holcomb went to
Texarkana Tuesday morning,
where she will undergo an ap-
pendix operation at Pine* Street
hospital. She was accompan-
ied by her sister, Mrs. Fred
Plum. Mrs. Eleanor Horn and
Lewis McElroy.
A daughter was born Tues-
day morning to Mr. and Mrs.
Bob Persons at their home in
Jefferson. Mrs. Persons was
formerly Miss Katherine Mdore
of this city, and is the grand-
daughter of J. W. McClintock.
