Host Families
Educational Merit Foundation, a
non profit, Texas-based, student
exchange organization is seeking
-volunteer host families for five
European high school students.
The students, who will arrive as
soon as host families are found,
will attend local public schools
for one or two semesters and
are eager to experience life in
Texas
They speak English, have their
own spending money, medical
insurance and expect to share their
host family's daily life including
household responsibilities. It is
not too late to decide to host
an international student for the
2000-01 school year. Interested
host families are encouraged to
apply immediately

In addition. Barrett said the
sirens in Seminole are currently
being tested and will go off if a
tornado is spotted from 15-20
miles out. heading toward Semi-
nole, to give adequate warning.
Barrett emphasized that all
persons develop a plan for their
own home in the event of severe
weather and follow that plan.
After a break, Cain gave
statistics that showed Texas has
more tornadoes than any other
state, and, unfortunately, more
fatalities, Second on the fatality
list was Mississippi.
He also gave statistics on
the amount of tornadoes per
county in Texas since 1950 and
Gaines County has had 27 re-
ported in the past 54 years.
