The. banquet which begins

"You must bo holy be-
causo I am holy." I Peter
1:16
In a science fiction story
ono of the characters com-
ments "There is only ono right
w.ay to do a thing and that s
to do it right."
Wo are a people who look
for shortcuts. We want to. do
things tho "easy" way tho
"quick" way. The less 'effort
we have to spend tho better
we like it. As a part of this
theory we mako disposable
products ones which morc-or-less
Berve their purpose and
then are thrown out pr traded
in. And now we are having
problems figuring out wjiat tq
dp with our waste I
' It's the same with holiness.
We want four easy steps
(can't wo remember any more
than that?) to teach us how
to bo holy. We ask what the
least we can do and be consid-
ered holy is. We seek formulas
wo can apply to every situa
tion. We try to find out what
we can got by with.
But what we can get by
with is nothing short of total
dedication. We have to do
things right and. while there
are an Infinite number of ways
to do things wrong there 13
only a very limited number of
right ways. Our example of
holiness is Jesus who was so
totally dedicated that he died
for us. Unless we would go
that far we have not gone far
enough. There Is no shortcut
only tho straight path
through life. There will al-
ways bo some areas outside the
written rules. But God goes
beyond those rules with his
love and holiness. So must wo.
