Archer City-Rust to Rides 7th
Annual VFD and EMS Fundraiser
Area and local community
members are invited to support
our area VFD and EMS depart-
ments on Saturday, June 7th at the
Archer City Park. The activities
taking place will be the 7th Annual
Classic Car, Truck, and Bike
Show, 1st Annual “Lucky Ticket”
Bike Run, and 2nd Annual VFD
and EMS “Best Bean” Cook-Off.
All proceeds from the car show,
bike run, and bean cook-off will
benefit the EMS and Volunteer
Fire Departments that participate
in the “Best Bean” Cook-Off. The
day’s activities will begin with the
“Lucky Ticket” Bike Run registra-
tion at 8:30am and bikes will be
leaving from the park from
9:00am to 10:00am. The route
of the bike run will take bikers
through the scenic back roads
from Archer County to Clay
County. Bikers will return to the
city park around noon where the
Classic Car, Truck, and Bike show
will be in full swing.
The car show registration
will be between the hours of
9:00am to 11:00am. This year
show consists of 15 different
classes of antiques, classics, and
new cars, trucks, and bikes.
While the car show is being
judged, the VFD “Best Bean” con-
test will be based on popular vote
from area and local community
members. Each person can pur-
chase a bean kit for $ 1 and will be
able to taste beans from each
VFD. Also, other family friendly
activities will be played through-
out the day, which will include the
spark plug toss, Plumb-Bob Driv-
ing, Creeper Race, Piston Toss,
Hula Hoop, and other games. The
day will end with an award cer-
emony around 4:00pm where the
winner of the VFD and EMS
“Best Bean” Cook-off will be an-
nounced. Also, trophies will be
given for 1st and 2nd place for each
15 classes for the car show. Other
trophies given include the “Best
of Show” (Car, Truck, and Bike),
“Participant’s Choice” and also,
“Sponsor’s Choice” from our ma-
jor sponsors, HydroCarbon Solu-
tions, Inc. of Midland TX, Borton
Mowing of Holliday TX, and Big
State Welding & Machine, LC. of
Wichita Falls TX.
All vendors are invited to
set up booths at no fee. However,
we request no food or beverage
vendors due to the VFD and EMS
will be selling food and drink
items. Also, if you would like to

Dairy Derby Fun Run/Heaith Walk
The Dairy Derby Fun Run/
Health Walk is held in conjunc-
tion with Windthorst’s 116th birth-
day celebration on June 8th, 2008.
Races for children up to 12
years old will begin at noon on
the football field, followed by the
5KTTPn, which v. ill aLu bfcgm and
end at the WHS track. A new fea-
ture, the 1.5 Mile Health Walk,
will begin when the 5K rate be-
gins.
Homemade authentic food
will be served and a variety of
activites for all ages will continue,
throughout the day.
Shirts and awards are com-
pliments of Windthorst Dairy
Supply, Terry and Scotta
Schroeder, owners.

Sale! Up and down 350 miles
along the Hwy 82 and Hwy 287
corridors in North Texas on June
6:h and 7th there will be yard
sales, garage sales, sidewalk
sales, farmers markets and flea
markets. From as far as
Clarksville in the east, to
Seymour in the west, south to
Bowie and north to Vernon, and
points in between, you are sure
to find something that will peak
your interest.
Along the way, participat-
ing towns will have maps avail-
able guiding shoppers to the spe-
cial sales throughout their com-
munities. The maps will also
direct travelers to the other des-
tinations along the route. Some
towns will have city-wide yard
sales set up at a central location;
while others may have them
spread throughout the commu-
nity; still others will showcase
their downtown merchants or
their flea markets/trade days.

Vernon College offers Summer
Bridge Program
Vernon College will offer
a Summer Bridge Program for
high school students looking to
transition into college success-
fully. Students in this free pro-
gram will earn up to three non-
transferable credit hours and up
to three transferable credit hours.
The Summer Bridge Pro-
gram will allow students to meet
new friends, have new experi-
ences, receive extra tutoring, and
attend free study skills and col-
lege success seminars. These stu-
dents will be prepared to hit the
ground running for the Fall 2008
semester.

4-11 Open Horse
Show June 7th

County Junior
Livestock Show Association is
hosting the 3rd Annual Open 4-
H Horse Show on Saturday, June
7 at the Archer Rodeo Arena in
Archer City. The 3rd Annual
horse show is open to all 4-Hers
in this district. This show is
great'practice for the upcoming
District 3 Horse Show that will
be held in Vernon on June 18th-
21st.
Entries for the Archer
show will open at 7:30 a.m. on
June 7th, and the show starts at
8:30 a.m. The cost for this year
show is $5 per class entered with
at additional fees for stock
classes. There will be a Jr and
Sr. age divisions and prizes
awarded in each division. The
juniors division will be ages 9
to 13 and senior’s will be age 14
to 18 years old. A negative
Coggins test papers is required
and will be checked.
There will be thirty-one
classes offered at this years
event. The Texas State 4-H
Horse Show rules will apply.
Classes include reining, work-
ing cowhorse, team penning,
roping, speed events, English
classes, showmanship, halter,
pleasure, horsemanship and
trail. There is even a walk-trot
class for the participates under
8 years of age. Awards presented
to the high point judged and
timed horseman.
