Corpus Christi, July W)— A
Navy pilot was killed yester-
day afternoon when his dive
bomber crashed into the bomb-
ing range of Padre Island,
about 20 miles south of the
Corpus Christi naval air .sta-
tion.
The Navy has identified the
victim as Ensign Kinnael Jo-
seph Horkits, who is survived
by his wife, Gloria, of Corpus
Christi; an 18-montfi-old son
j and his mother, Mrs. Viola Hor-
kits of St. Louis.

The treasury hat mailed
about 3,000 blank checks—
all signed—to retired govern-
ment workers in all parts
of the country. It happened
because clerks failed to feed
the checks through a machine
which lA-ints the amount to
be paid.
But officials say there’s
no chance for the govern-
ment ly lose money if people
write in pliony figures. The
numbers of the blank checks
are known and payments will
not be made on amounts
different from (hose due.

ing why the Cairo government
has chosen to break what ap-
pears to be a tacit understand-
ing. They say President Nasser
may have decided on the move
in older to redeem his wan-
ing prestige. It is believed by
some that more serious motives

Corning, N. Y., July 2
-A c o u pi e of youngsters
took an airplane from a pri-
vate field at Corning, but
smashed into a parked plane
before tUe got to the rtin-
way. Police said the two
boys, one 17 and the other
15, told them they Had never
been in a plane before. The
owner of the plane said it
was just as well the boys
didn5t make it. There was
just enough fuel to get the
plane in the air.

dy left the engine running and
her car slipped into reverse
gear, rrin across her body twice
and made two full circles be-
fore stalling across U.S. High-
way 94.
She is t h e mother of the
Reverend Gerald Gaddy, pas-
tor of the Morgan Avenue
Baptist Church in Corpus Chris-
ti. Her husband and another
son, Marvin Gaddy of the Mule-
shoe areri, also survive.
