Preface
In my first book, , tfte9 i R& .4 . . e '7eza w'eU aet , the purpose of the book was to make
my own artistic impressions of the beauty of the "old" Texas Hill Country available to those who would enjoy it.
This is STILL my purpose in doing dtae9 44Raad II .. . e 4 7eza44 Sul .
The first book was a collection of my artwork from 1974 to 1980. As I can see now, some were quite rusty after a
lay-off from art of over 21 years to be an Air Force Nurse and travel the world. I loved it! Book II is a collection
of my pen and inks of the Hill Country area from 1980 to 1993....even I can tell that my artwork has improved
with age and lots of practice.
Again, I have used the pictures of places that I know best or have the most feeling for. It's interesting that when I
get on a real "run" of painting continuously at times, I find myself looking at a brick building and instead of seeing
the whole building, I find myself counting the bricks I have to draw. ..THAT'S when I back off and take a break.
This is not a history book, intentionally, but I just love these old buildings so much that I have to find out more
about the "old days." The pioneers who came to the Texas Hill Country, particularly the Germans, had a very
rough time.....but, they survived. Now, their descendants, customs and music are still with us today to share and
enjoy.
Let's start our visit in the Boerne area and work our way in the Hill Country to areas in and around Bergheim,
Kendalia, Sisterdale, Welfare and Waring. Check the map in the front of the book for the general locations.
You will find lovely, large homes and little cabins that WERE homes, old barns, windmills, churches and other
"old" delights. I've tried to put the places in order by AGE within each area so that you can see the buildings that
were built about the same time within a certain era.
ENJOY YOUR VISIT WITH ME, ate aa c ' Raad4 II... e4e 7ezas WIl ase q.
