Time and thoughts are running short this week so I found some good
stuff in some of the area newspapers. This first group of ideas comes from
the pen of Roy McQueen in the Snyder Daily News. Roy found it in a col-
umn written by Jeffrey Patterson in the Lamesa Press Reporter, and I don't
know where Jeff got it but for a guy who deals with words it's fun.
Its a takeoff on some old sayings...
- A rotating fragment of minerals collects no plants of the class Musci.
(A rolling stone gathers no moss).
- Exercise your visual facilities prior to executing a jump. (Look be-
fore you leap).
- An excess of individuals skilled in the preparation of edibles impairs
the quality of a thin derivative of meat. (Too many cooks spoil the broth).
- A fathered biped in the terminal part of die arm equals in value a
pair of feathered bipeds in densely branched shrubbery. (A bird in the hand
is worth two in the bush).
- Everything is legitimate in matters pertaining to ardent affection
and armed conflict between nations. (All's fair In love and war).
- The herbage is customarily more verdurous on the diametrical sel-
vage of the property division. (The grass is always greener on the other side
of the fence).
- A single unit of seam properly distributed at the correct measure of
duration will maintain a square root of 81. (A stich in time saves nine).
- Feathered bipeds in their segregated environment associate with a
high degree of amiability. (Birds of a feather flock together)r
-- Any object that ascends into the stratosphere irrevocably and inevi-
tably descends to the terra firms. (What goes up must come down).
- Reclining early on one's couch with the sun creates one who is salu-
tary, opulent and erudite. (Early to bed, and early to rise, makes one healthy,
wealthy and wise).
- Tacitumy is aurous. (Silence is golden).
Now comes Don Ingram in the Andrews County News with these hints
to folks just moving into Texas....
Rules for entering Texas:
The following list of rules applies to each person as they onter the Lone
Star State._ _
-- Pull your pants up. You look like an idiot. Let’s get this straight.
- Many towns in Texas have one stoplight. We stop when it's red.
We may even stop when it's yellow.
- It's called a 'gravel road.' Most Texans drive a pickup because they
need to. No matter how slow you drive, you're going to get dust on your
Lexus. Drive it or get out of the way.
- Therc're pigs, cattle, and oil wells. That's what it smells like to
newcomers. It smells like money to us. Get over it. Don't like it? 1-40 and
I-10 go cast and west. 1-35 goes north and south. Pick one.
- So you have a $60,000 car. We're real impressed. We have farmers
that have quarter-million dollar cotton strippers that only get driven three
weeks a year.
- So every person in every pickup truck waves. It's called being
friendly. Try to understand the concept.
- If that cell phone rings while a bunch of doves are coming in, well
shoot it out of your hand. Just hope you don't have it up to your ear at the
time.
- The term "Opener" refers to the first day of deer season.
-- If you bring "Coke" into my house it better be brown, wet, served
over ice and plenty of it *
- If you bring "Mary Jane" into my house she better be cute, know
how to shoot, drive a truck and have long hair. ' ,
- High school football is as important here as the Lakers and Knicka
and a dang sight more fun to watch.
-Yeah, we have golf courses. Don't hit in the water hazards, it spooki
the fish. * ' 1 1
- Also, remember what Gov. Sam Houston once said. "Texas can
make it without the United States, but the United States can't make it
without Texas." \ /

I found this little gem in the Lions Magazine. And I think 1 have
been around a few guys who work along these lines...
Joe, John and Bob were moving furniture. While Joe and John were
struggling with a particularly heavy oak wardrobe, Joe noticed that Btb
was nowhere in sight.
"John, where's Bob?" asked Joe. "He should be helping us with this
thing."
"He is helping," said John. "He's inside holding the clothes
hangers in place!"
