Lenten 40 Hours Devotion
Five Points Deanery is having hs Lenten 40 Hours
Devotion, hosted by St, Anthony’s parish in Violet,
on Feb. 23, 6-10 p.m.; Feb. 24, 6-10 p.m.; Feb. 25, 9
a.m.-6 p.m,; and Feb, 26, 3 p.m. {closing celebra-

Lions Club fertilizer sale
The Corpus Christi Six Points Lions Club will
have their annual fertilizer sale on the weekends of
Feb. 18-19 and Feb. 25-26. This event is used to raise
funds for the Texas State Lions Crippled Children’s
Camp in Kerrville, the Lions Eye Bank and the sup-
port of many local charities. The sale will be held at
the intersection of Gollihar and Weber Streets and at
Pinky’s Mini-Market at the intersection of Ayers and
Saratoga, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. For further informa-

Special retreat in Laredo
“The Heart of Jesus, The Heart of Mary” is the
theme for a special retreat to be given in Laredo by
Dominican Father Thomas Philippe. The retreat will
be held at the Holy Spirit Retreat & Conference
Center in Laredo on Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m. until
March 2 at noon. The daily conference will be at 10
a.m, and 7:30 p,m. Lodging and meals are available.

Lector workshop
A workshop for lectors emphasizing the readings of
the Triduum and the Easter season will be held on
Feb. 25 from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Corpus
Christi Pastoral Center. Cost is $8 per person; parish

Church ?89 videoconference
The National Pastoral Life Center will continue its
“Church ’99: Confronting Today’s Pastoral Ques-
tions” videoconference series with "The Hispanic
Agenda: The Pastoral Plan and Beyond” on March
2, at 2 p.m. at the Telecommunications Centers in

Lenten day of retreat
On Sunday, Feb. 19, the Knights of Columbus
will hold their annual Lenten day of retreat at the
Pastoral Center, 1200 Lantana, Corpus Christi.
Father David Walsh, CSSR, chaplain of the KC
Corpus Christi Chapter, will conduct the retreat.
The program begins at 11 a.m, and ends at 4 p.m.;
the closing Mass will be held in the retreat house
dhapel at 3 p.m.; a pot lunch will be served. For fur-

Getting it right
Father Charles Magsam’s prayer group, one of
several area prayer groups of the Catholic
Charismatic Renewal (CCR), meets on Wednesdays
at 7:30 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Chapel on Ocean
Dr. in Corpus Christi, not on Thursdays, as was
mistakenly reported in the CCR advertisement in the
Feb. 10 issue of the South Texas Catholic.
Pilgrimage to shrine
On the 18th of each month, a passenger bus leaves
the Garcia’s Furniture Store o-i Ayers at 8:30 a.m.
for a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of
Schoenstatt in Lamar. Tickets we $6 per person. For

Scouting awards
On Sunday, Feb, 19 at 2 p.m. at Corpus Christi
Academy, Bishop Rene H. Gracida will present the
religious awards to youths and adults in scouting in
the Diocese of Corpus Christi. For the first time this
will be a combined ceremony with Camp Fire Girls
and Girl Scouts. Georgette Chase (Camp Fire) and
Bunnie Hernann (Girl Scouts) are organizing the
girls’ awards. The following boys* awards will be
presented: Parvuli Dei (Cub Scouts); Ad Altare Dei
(Boy Scouts 12-18); Pope Pius Xll (high school-21
years old); and the adult awards, St. George and the
Bronze Pelican. For more information, call Deacon

Parish begins
fundraising efforts
LAREDO—Father Bernardino Herrero, pastor of
Holy Family Church, has announced that the parish
has formally begun its fundraising efforts toward the
construction of a new church building.
Building fund envelopes will be handed out at the
Saturday and Sunday Masses the first weekend of
every month, said Elida Cordnas, pariah correspon-
dent for Holy Family Church. Masses at Holy Fami-
ly Church are celebrated daily at 8 a.m.; Saturday at
4:30 p.m.; and Sunday at 10:30 a.m. She said that
registered parishioners as well as non-registered
church goers are asked to make monthly contribu-
tions.
Mrs. Cortinas also extended an invitation to all to
attend Holy Hour on First Fridays at 7 p.m.
