Much of blood donated Christian Mothers meet,
used by cancer patients honor 50 year members
; In 2006, there were 1.4 million
' new cancer diagnoses made in
the United States. Nearly all of
those newly diagnosed with
cancer and receiving
chemotherapy or related therapy
will need blood or blood
products at some point during
their treatment. Y ou can join the
battle against cancer by donating
blood at the Red Cross blood
drive at the Knights of Columbus
Hall in Scotland hosted by the St
Boniface Christian Mothers on
Wednesday, October 15 from
3:00pm to 7:00pm.
With inventories continuing
to fluctuate, the Red Cross
reminds Archer County
residents that the on-going need
for blood has never been more
important, especially for those
fighting cancer. Blood donors
are needed year-round to treat
cancer patients and those
undergoing chemotherapy. A
stable supply is necessary to
ensure blood is available when
patients need it most.
If you are at least 17 years of
age, weigh a minimum of 110
pounds and are in general good
health, you may be eligible to
donate blood. For more
information on blood donation,
call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE. The Red
Cross reminds those coming to
donate to bring a photo ID.
The American Red Cross is
there whether the need is for
blood, disaster services, health
& safety training or to connect a
serviceman to home in time of
need. In 2007, the American Red
Cross Chapter of North Central
Texas assisted in 504 family
disasters; made1443 emergency
connections for area military
personnel; and trained 6355 area
residents in First Aid, CPR and
Aquatics.
Kids: Trick or Treat in
Archer City on October 29th
The City Council of Archer
City has designated Wednesday,
October 29, 2008 as 'Trick or
Treat' night. This will coincide
with the First Baptist Church's
"Fearless Family Fun Night."
Halloween falls on a Friday
this year and considering the
football games, Thursday night
away games, and Friday night
home game, the council decided
it would be the best way for the
children and their families to en-
joy the Halloween festivities.

Three special ladies were hon-
ored on their Golden Anniver-
sary for being 50-year members
of the Christian Mothers Soci-.
ety at the monthly meeting on
Oct. 1 in Windthorst.
Cordelia Berend, Marie
Veitenheimer and Loretta
Meurer were presented gold pins
and each lady had entertaining
summaries given about their
lives. Cordelia's daughter, Diana
and her granddaughter, Becky,
told her story; Suzette, Marie's
oldest daughter, related her life
events; and Ida Hoff spoke about
her good friend, Loretta. These
special women gave a lot of
themselves to their families, their
church and community through
the years and still serve as in-
spiring examples to all.
Nice refreshments were served
to thirty members and guests
attending this celebration.
A brief business meeting was
also held and mostly routine mat-
ters were discussed. One item
was noted that our present CMS
president, Margaret Schroeder,
will be installed as the President
pro-tem of the Northwest Dean-
ery of the NCCW at the quar-
terly meeting on October 30 at
Rhineland, TX. We are proud
she was selected for this posi-
tion
Door prizes were won by
Becky Lewis, Angie Berend,
Loretta Meurer, Betty Wolf and
Geraldine Lindemann.
