A late New Year’s resolution—
more news from the community.
John Read, Scyene Road, is ill
with the flu.
Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Lancaster,M
Martin Lane, announce the arrival
of their first baby, a boy, born Jan-
uary 14, 1944. The baby’s name is
Wayne Ray and his proud grand-
mothers are Mrs. B. Strait of Dallas
and Mrs. Minnie Lancaster of Tallu-
lah, La.
Mr. and Mrs. Lodas V. Jones, who
resided in East Side for twelve years
recently sold their home on Martin
Lane to Mr. and Mrs. Guion Gregg
of Dallas. The Jones will be greatly
missed in the community. They are
temporarily at home with Mrs. Jones
parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Compton
5923 McComas, Dallas.
The friends of Mr. and Mrs. O. V.
Reynolds, Pruitt Road, also are sor-
ry to learn they have sold their home
to Mr. and Mrs. Chas. M. McC'ommas ;
Dallas, and expect to leave next
week to make their home in Okla-
homa. Mrs. Reynolds has been ac-;
tive in the Scyene School Parents
Club for several years. They have a
daughter, Joyce, attending Mesquite
High School and a son, Jackie, at-
tending Scyene.
The community extends sympathy
to Hugh Robertson, Minta Drive, in
the recent loss of his father, J. T.
Robertson of Mineola. Mr. Robertson
was 88 years old and had resided in
the Mineola community for nearly
6 0 years. He is survived by 7 chil-
dren.
The community also extends sym-
pathy to Mrs. Walter Ernst, Pruitt
Road, who learned Monday of the
death of a sister, Mrs. Freida Bau-
mann in Los Angeles, Calif. Mrs.
Baumann is a former Dallas resident
and is survived by a daughter, Mary 1
Ann, Los Angeles and one son, Cal-
vin, U. S. Navy stationed at Corpus
Christi, her mother, Mrs. Wm. Mon-
schke and a number of brothers and
sisters in Dallas.
Party At McDaniels
For Miss Caldwell
The Christian Endeavor with Miss
Dorothy McDaniel as hostess enter-
tained with a farewell party hon-
oring Miss Billie Caldwell, Thurs-
day night. Games were played and re-
freshments of cookies, jello with
whipped ^cream and nuts were ser-
ved. Guests were the Rev. Brock-
way Jane and Mary Clark, Betty
Jean Hinton, Robert Thompson, Mat-
tie, Zelma and Virginia Crane, Mrs.
Annie Tosch, Mrs. Joe Norwood and
daughter, Nancy Flo, Martha Nell
Harbin, Mrs. Ruth Caldwell and son,
Slim; Ruth Lander, Edith and Mary
Jo Caldwell, the hostess and her
family.
The chandelir was decorated with
streamers on which farewell wishes
were printed.
Miss Caldwell received many love-
ly and useful gifts. She left Sunday
night to return to California where
she will re-enter the Bible Institute
of Los Angeles.

New Hope H. D. Club
Fourteen ladies, including Mrs.
Maud Hale, guest, attended the New
Hope Demonatration club meeting at
the community house last Thursday.
After a careful examination of the
new year books, work for the year
was planned. A drive foi’ new mem-
ber from the entire community was
planned to last through February.
New members in the club are Mrs.
G. M. Roe, Mfs. Felton Smith and
Mrs. W. B. Borden.
A luncheon and demonstration on
light bread and quick buns has been
scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 3 at
the community house.
Mrh. Charles Rogers of Scyene,
spent Sunday with her father, A. C.
Walker.
Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Carney and
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Wiseman went to
Dennison Dam, Sunday;
Junior Summers and Tommy Mc-
Gowan went up in an airplane last
Saturday and enjoyed it.
Mrs. E. L. Ayers left Monday
night to return to San Diego, Calif.,
where her husband is in service.

from Oklahoma, where he will work,
have been visiting their brother-in-
law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. S. F.

Polley is supervisor at an egg plant
in Dallas. Mrs. Clara Mae Robertson
is with her husband who is working
in a, defense plant in Miami, Florida.
The twins Mrs. Janie Bell McSpad-
den lives in Dallas and Mrs. Ina Bell
Chenault is on the farm. Mrs. Dur-
rett came by to pay for Mesquiter.
