Dr. Janice Ledet
Dr. Ledet Joins Alto Clinic
By BETTY RARD1N
Alto acquired an additional
family practise doctor last week
when Dr. Janice Ledet (Leday)
joined Dr Robert P Carroll at the
Alto Medical Clinic She will be
there on Mondays, 8 to 12 and on
Thursdays, 8 to 12
Dr. Ledet was born in Frankfort,
Kentucky and attended schools in
Centre, Danville, and completed
her medical degree work at the
University of Louisville Her inter-
nship was carried out at University
Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. Dr.
Ledet began her practise in family
medicine in 1984 at Orange Park,
Fla. in a clinic similar to, but
somewhat larger than, the Alto
Medical Clinic
This past August, Dr. Ledet
married Dr Ted Ledet, an internist
who practices at Medical Center
Towers in Nacogdoches. The two
doctors make their home in
Nacogdoches. They met several
years ago when both aspiring doc
tors were attending medical school
in Louisville.
Dr Ledet comes from a family of
doctors and she said it was an easy
decision to make, going into the
medical field and completing the
many years of study necessary to
be a family doctor We talked about

the increasing number ot women
now practising medicine Dr Ledet
said that 40 or so years ago only one
or two percent of the number ol
medical students were women
Today the rate is 25 percent A lai ge
percent of the women going inn>
medicine specialize in pediatrics,
said the doctor. Not very many
women are going into the practise
of surgery or obstetrics/gynocology
due to the erratic hours these
special fields demand
Dr Ledet said that until recently
many medical schools were
hesitant to accept women due to the
drop out rate. More recently
however, most drop outs occur in
the latter years of college rather
than after beginning medical
school, she said The w omen who do
not go on, discover pretty early that
they are not cut out for the rigors of
medical school
Dr Ledet is enjoying living in
Texas and finds Alto to be a very
picturesque town She said the
people she has met have been very
nice and friendly and she especially
enjoys working with, and knowing
Dr Carroll and the nurses at the
Alto Medical Center
