CHAMBER NEWS BY JOAN MEADOWS. We want to welcome a new member: Beyond
Cuts-Rita Badger is the owner, located in Downtown Cleveland 103 S. Travis (just around the
corner from Bell Real Estate) or call 592-9293, we will be having a ribbon cutting at 10AM
Tuesday, October 31st. Mark your calendars for Nov. 1st, 7:30AM-9ANIfor our "Mo:, mg
Coffee at the Chamber". Members-watch the mail on Nov. 1st. Ballots will be mailed to
members in good standing for five (5) Director to the Board. Your marked ballot will need to
be returned and/or postmarked by Nov. 11th 5PM in order to be counted. Also mark your
calendar for the "Cleveland Chapter #465-Order of the Eastern Star-Annual Turkey &
Dressing Dinner" scheduled for the following Friday, October 27 at the Tarkington Masonic
Lodge located at 1209 Southline from UAM-2PM. Tickets are located at the Chamber. First
Saturday Festival booth./spaces are renting fastfor November 4th. There will be a Pot Roast
cooking and Pecan Pie Baking Contest, and the "Lone Star Blue Grass Band " of Houston will
perform. Call or come by the Chamber office to rent your booth/space, or to pick up your entry
formsfor the cooking/baking contest. Businesses of the Week: Alma 'sPS Florist-Barbara Toler
is the owner, Beth Lum, Manager. They are located at 212 N. Bonham, 713-592-3577.
Chamber member since June 1988. Wirt Davis Trust-Charles Franklin has been a faithful
supporter of this Chamber for a number of years. Member since July 1982.
AUXILIARY UNIT OF POST 629, THE AMERICAN LEGION, COLDSPRING, TEXAS,
Tuesday, October 31st, Halloween Night, a Halloween party for the children will be held at the
Post Hall starting at 6PM, with hot dogs, punch & candy. A costume contest will be held for
age groups up to 14 years old. Bring your children and enjoy the fun. A possible hay ride is
being planned.
HALLOWEEN COSTUME PARTY, dance and benefit to be held at the Camilla American
Legion Post 629 on Saturday, October 28th 9PM-1AM. "The Country Travelers Band" will
entertain. Call 409-653-4708for reservations. Auction items will be auctioned off to benefit
the Ladies Auxiliary so they can remodel the kitchen.
CUB SCOUTS & BOY SCOUTS in all of Southeast Texas are again selling Trails End
Popcorn. The popcorn is a delicious and nutritious snack for everyone. There are seven
different popcorn products to chosefrom this year; 3 lb. bucket ofunpopped cornfor $5; 5-pack
butter flavor microwave for $5; 12 oz. caramel corn in a decorative tin Jor $6; 15-pack butter
flavor microwave for $10; 15 -pack light microwavefor $10; 28 oz. caramel corn in the large
holiday tinfor$ 12; and new this year, 24oz. chocolate caramel crunch inaholidaytinfor$15.
There are some choices there sure to make your mouth water. Your support is appreciated by
the Scouts in the Cleveland area. The money we make from the sale ofpopcorn helps us to

GOBLINS TO VISIT YOUNG AND OLD AT VFW POST 1839. On Saturday, October 28th,
the VFW, Cleveland Memorial Post 1839 and it's Ladies auxiliary will host a Halloween party
for youngsters, to be followed by a costume dance jor adults. Both events will beheld at the Post
Home on Coldspring Road and are open to the public. The free children's party, featuring
games, prizes and other goodies will be from 5-7PM. The dance with music supplied by DJ,
Doug Carnes, will befrom 8-12PM. Prizes will be given for best costumes. Entrance to dance
,s $3.00 for singles and $5.00 for couples. As always, the proceeds from the dance will go for
local charities.

Anniversary at their annual Homecoming on Sunday, October 29th at 10:30AM. Pastor Lonnie
Quillen will bring the message. There will be dinner on the grounds and singing in the
afternoon. If you have ties to Magnolia, you will want to be there.
FALL FESTIVAL ATDOLEN. A Fall Festivall will be held on Tuesday, October 31, in the
Family Life Center building at Dolen Baptist church. The time is from 7-9PM. Noah's Ark is
the theme and children may come dressed in costume, children must be accompanied by an
adult. Games, booths and special treats will be availablefor the children, thiswill be afun night

CLEVELAND HIGH SCHOOL HOMECOMING DANCE '95. The 1995 Homecoming
Dance was a huge success! Fun was had by all. Proceeds from concession stand sales and the
dance benefitted the "Clydie B. Williams Scholarship Fund". Cleveland High would like to
extend its sincere appreciation to the following sponsors for the support they gave us with this
event: Marco "Tony" Lopez, our volunteer D.J., Cleveland Police Department, Taco Bell, Coca
Cola of Beaumont, David Bruce Photography, Potetz Home Center, Cleveland Welding,
Brookshire Bros., and the Royal Braves Band Boosters. We would also like to say "Thank You "
to all ofthe individual volunteers and to those who havemade such generous private donations.
Cleveland High School is very proud of this first successful endeaver, please continue to

CHERRY-GIBSON AMERICAN LEGION POST 393. On Oct. 9,1995 the American Legion
Post 393 was addressed by Chris Berwick, Trinity District Executive and Art Barkis, of Three
Rivers Council BSA; out ofBeaumont, Texas. They presented an opportunity for the Legion
Post to sponsor a new Boy Scout Troop in Cleveland, citing the needfor expansion of the Boy
Scout activity in this area. The Post voted in favor of the project and appointed a committee
to study the feasibility of sponsorship. The American Legion Post 393, Cleveland, ispreparing
a Memorial Placque to recognize all of the deceased war veterans that were members of this
Post at the time ofdeath. Some ofthe Post records have been lost, since the post was founded
in 1931, and it is feared that the names of some of the past members may be overlooked. We
appeal to anyone knowing the identity ofany of those past members to please let us know who
