Bnai Brith News there is a strong ed-
itorial against this abomination It
is likely that the editorial will stir
lodges all over the country to try to
drive the Hebrew comedian off the
boards It is certain that the days of
this low form of amusement are num-
bered After all it is difficult to un-
derstand how such an unrefined fea-
ture is allowed in our theaters Per-
sons watching such antics and pretend-
ing to be amused or being amused
by them show an inferior intelligence
Persons of superior intelligence and re-
fined taste should never sit through a
performance of which Hebrew com-
edians are part So out with you Mr
Hebrew comedian Let us have more

FORT WORTH TEXAS
In Fort Worth Succoth the Feast of
Booths was celebrated in the same old
way Jews have been accustomed In
spite of these days being weekdays
the services at the Ahavath Sholom
Synagogue were very well attended by
both young and old A very impres-
sive and exceedingly Jewish picture
was that of the chanting of Hallel
by the children and the swaying of
fifteen Lulovim in the hands of the
elders Rabbi Blumenthal lecturing
on each of the holy days about the
ideal significance of the respective
holidays helped to complete the
pleasure of this picture H Sim
chath Torah Rejoicing of the Law
evening also presented a very pleas-
ant scene From the number of pack-
ages of candy and flags both Zionist
and American distributed it was eas-
ily deduced that two hundred children
and as many adults were present
The Ahavath Sholom Congregation
wpund up the holy days with a free
forall banquet on the evening of Sun-
day Oct 10th The new officers were
installed which was followed by a
short address by each of the men who

had the honor of being a president dur-
ing any of the last eighteen years of
the existence of the congregation
Then Mr M Shamblaum the pioneer
of Fort Worth Jewery addressed the
audience He portrayed the necessity
of a Hebrew Institute in Fort Worth
urging that such an institution must
and will come into existence In the
course of his address he told how a
certain liberal man gave two hundred
and fifty dollars three years ago as a
beginnig for a fund to build the pres-
ent beautiful synagogue Mr L G
Gilbert being thus reminded of his
liberality in presenting this donation
without hesitation declared that he
subscribe a similar amount now as a
start for a fund for the Hebrew In-
stitute Mr Shanblum did not leave
the platform before 1400 had been
subscribed A committee was ap-
pointed to look for a site which will
give its report In the near future
In the course of his lecture on Yom
Kippur Rabbi Charles Blumenthal
asked the merchants of the audience
to have enough Jewish backbone to
close their stores at G30 on Friday
evenings at least This request was
complied with to the word the mer-
chants blaming themselves why such
in initiative step had not been taken
before This will permit many more
people to attend the services on every
Friday evening Sunday morning
Oct 17th the question why two
camps in Israel was earnestly dis-
cussed at the meeting of the I O B
B B It is the aim of the intellectual
committee of this organization to pre-
sent topics of Jewish interest at their
meetings for the coming season
At 230 p m of the same day the
Hebrew Relief Society also held its
quarterly meeting It was reported
that the income for July August and
September was 31428 while the dis-
bursements amount to 18937
At four oclock of the same afternoon
the Geimloth Shesed Benevolent
Loan Asociation held its meeting at
which it was reported that the treas-
ury amounted to 1150 and the amount
of money loaned within the past six
months 1GOO In the evening of the
same day the Ahavath Zion Qield its
meeting which was addressed by Rah
bi Chas Blumenthal The Dr Herzl
club a junior organisation also held

its usual meeting 20 was voted for
the Bezalel 20 for books and there
still remain In the treasury 40

A Dance At the Progress Club
A beautiful dance was given at the
Progress club on Thursday evening
by the Ladies Aid Society of the Tem-
ple Rodef Sholom for the benefit of
their new synagogue Allesandos band
discoursed sweet music to which the
young people and a large contingent
of the married crowd as well danced
Refreshments consisting of sandwiches
and cooling drinks were served during
this evening which was a most suc-
cessful one both from a social and lu-
crative standpoint
The Ladies Hebrew Rest society en-
tertained at Progress hall last Thurs-
day for the benefit of the new Tem-
ple Miss Mary Novlch has re-
turned from New York Mrs J
Alderman and daughter Miss Goldye
who have beea in New York left Wed-
nesday and will arrive via steamer
in Galveston in about a week They
will spend two weeks as guests at the
Rice hotel in iHouston also two weeks
at the Dallas fair and then will return
to Waco On Thursday afternoon
Miss Hachel Strauss was hostess with
Bridge for the diversion and the fa-
vors fell to Misses Gussie Landman
and Eva Long The formers trophy
was a fancy lace vest the lattera a
dainty French embroidered handker-
chief As a finale to this very pleas-
ant afternoon Miss Strauss offered a
delicious salad course to her guests
Mr and Mrs Schonberg and
daughter Hortence of Groesbeck and
Mr and Mrs A Neil and little son
of Corpus Christ are guests at the
home of B Alexander
Mr Charlie Naman the genial rep-
resentative of Herz Bros in Northern
Texas with headquarters at Dallas is
spending Sunday in the city and shak-
ing hands with his many friends
Miss Hattye Brin who has finished
her course in stenography left for
home where she will accept a position
as stenographer Mrs Alderman
and Miss Goldye arrived in Galveston
Wednesday and after spending a few
days in Houston will join Mrs Crown
