Avoid a turkey-induced nap and get some holi-
day shopping done early by visiting Bealls on
Thanksgiving night, Nov. 22, from 8 p.m. to mid-
night. In response to excited customers who want
to jump start their Black Friday shopping, the
retailer is giving shoppers an early opportunity to
take advantage of deals and giveaways that have
typically been reserved for Black Friday. With over
300 “door buster” sales in small electrics, cosmet-
ics, footwear, toys, jewelry and more, Bealls antici-
pates a good showing on its first-ever Thanksgiving
night opening. Bealls will re-open at 6 a.m. on Black
Friday with continued door busters and giveaways.

Crime Stoppers
seeking tips on
three cases

The Nolan County Crime Stoppers are currently seek-
ing tips on three cases as Crimes of the Week.
Sometime around Oct. 26, to Nov. 8, a person(s) com-
mitted the offense of burglary of a habitation. A person
or persons entered a residence located in the northwest
part of Sweetwater, Nolan County, and took a multiple
power tools and weapons.
Sometime around Oct. 31, a person(s) committed
the offense of cruelty to animals. Sweetwater Animal
Control located a small dog — a black and brown min-
iature pincher. The small dog was located on the east
side of tow n w ith its jawr and mouth bound by electrical
tape.
Sometime around Nov. 11, a person(s) committed the
offense of burglary of a building. A person or persons
entered a storage building behind a residence located in
Roscoe. The suspect or suspects took a large tool box.
Crime Stoppers will pay a cash reward for information
received this week that leads to an arrest or indictment
in these cases. Call Crime Stoppers at 235-TIPS (8477).
SISD to loin

The Sweetwater ISD Board of Trustees took steps
for the district to join the TACS (Texas Association of
Community Schools) AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress)
lawsuit during their meeting held on Monday night,
November 19 at the Administration Building.
AYP is used as an accountability resource to evaluate
public school campuses and districts, in accordance to
the federally-mandated No Child Left Behind (NCLB)
Act.
A press release from TACS noted that since the federal
system was started in 2003, the ratings are invalid and
are "destructive...to local school operations." Should
success be found from the lawsuit, the TEA (Texas
Education Agency) would have to withdraw its AYP
regulations, thus eliminating nine years of ratings and
