DIOCESE
Msgr. James Harris, VE. has been released from his
assignment as Pastor of Christ the King Church in Laredo,
and has been appointed Pastor of San Augustin Parish in
Laredo, effective March 28. Msgr. Harris has also been
appointed Chaplain to the Laredo National Guard, effective
immediately.
Official Appointments
Father Donald Downey has been released from his
assignment as Priest-in-Charge of Mary, Mother of the
Church Mission in Corpus Christi, and has been appointed
Pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Encinal.
Father Downey was also appointed Adjutant Judicial Vicar
for the Western Vicariate, effective March 29.
Father Daniel Ramirez-Portugal has been released of
his assignment as Pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Corpus
Christi, and has been appointed Pastor of Christ the King
Church in Laredo effective May 1.
Father Jos6 Gutierrez has been appointed Pastor of
Sacred Heart Church in Corpus Christi, while retaining
temporary Chaplaincy at Spohn Hospital, effective May 24.
Father Manuel Hernandez, Jr. has been released from
his assignment as Parochial Vicar of Christ the King Church
in Laredo, and has been appointed Parochial Vicar at St.
Patrick Church in Corpus Christi, effective May 31.
Father Roger Smith has been appointed Adminstratorof
the Collegiate Parish of St. Thomas Aquinas in Kingsvil]
while retaining his appointment as Pastor of St. Gerirui
Parish in Kingsville, effective May 31.
Father Emilio Rosolen has been released of his assign-
ment as Pastor of the Collegiate Parish of St. Thomas
Aquinas in Kingsville, effective May 31.

Sister Landeros, MDPVM
Sister Sofia Landeros, 90 years old. a Missionary' Daugh-
ter of the Most Pure Virgin Mary, passed away on Monday.
May 20. 1996 in a Kingsville Hospial after a long illness.
She was bom in Aguascalientes. Mexico and served at St.
Anthony's Parish in Robstown for over 50 years. She had
been residing in Kingsville..
There are no known immediate suvivors.
Rosary was recited May 21 at Ramon Funeral Home
Chapel. Her funeral Mass was celebrated May 22 at St.
Anthony’s Chruch in Robstown. and she was buried in
Chamberlain Cemetery in Kingsville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Retire-
ment Fund of M.D.P.V.M. (Missionary Daughters of the
Pure Virgin Mary). 919 N. 9th St.. Kingsville. Texas 78363.
Sister Cariaso, OP
Dominican Sister Maria Guadalupe Cariaso, 52. passed
away on Thursday, May 16. 1996.
Sister Guadalupe taught at Dominican School, Manila,
Philippines, and St. Joseph’s School in Beevillc. She was
appointed Superior of Dominican Convent in Oxnard. Cali-
fornia. and later she was assigned to the Dominican Central
House, Corpus Christi, Texas, where she spent almost three
years trying to recuperate from a lingering illness.
She is survived by a brother. Marcario; sisters, Maria,
Magdalena and Aurelia, all of the Philippines, and Doric
from Jefferson, Iowa.
A rosary was recited by Rev. Terrence Holacheck, O.P.,
May 17 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Mass was
celebrated by Rev. Bartholomew Leon, O.S.B. Interment
followed at Seaside Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Retired
Sister. 2237 Waldron Rd.. Corpus Christi, TX 78418.

Young Adult Retreat
About 50 young adults
participated in a Young Adult
Retreat April 12-14. The
reatreat, sponsored by the
Diocesan Office of Youth and
Young Adult Ministry, was held
at Camp Corpus Christi in
Medina and was an opportunity
for people ages 19-35 to
gather together away from their
hectic lives for a time of prayer
and getting to know each
other. Most of the retreat's
events took place outdoors,
including Mass, which was
celebrated by Father Didier
Marie Dugas Viallis of the
Congregation of St. John.
