REQUIREMENTS FOR CITY-
WIDE SANITATION DRIVE
State Health Officer Geo. W.
Cox has spelled out in one-two-
three order the requirements for
a city-wide sanitation drive that
will “show results in fewer flies,
fewer rats, and less disease.”
His plan in brief: Apply the
idea of a good spring cleaning
outside as well as inside the
house.
The long-time exponent of
clean environment said the State
Department of Health, would, on
request, send a team of sanita-
tion experts to survey any Texas
town for health hazards.
“An untrained person might
fail to see the significance of
horse lots, surface toilets, or
stagnant water holes where flies
and mosquitoes can breed. Our
people, by training and exper-
ience, know how to locate and
correct hazards to community
health,’ the health officer said.
The survey would include a
check on the manner of garbage
storage, collection, and disposal,
and look into foodhandling es-
tablishments to see if their
foods are coming from safe
sources.
The team, according to the
doctor’s plan, would make a stu-|
dy- of the local water supply.
Contaminated? If so, what’s
the reason and how can it be
corrected most efficiently?
They would investigate the
sbwrage system. Do lines _ ex-
tend into all reas of the city?
Are all residences connected? Is
the plant itself adequate to ac-
comodate the city? How is the
sewage processed?
Residental and business dis-
tricts would be inspected for
sanitary violations, and each
property owner would be strict-
ly accountable for cleaning up
his premises, with the city haul-
ing away accumulations of
trash.
“If we all begin work right
now, using tried and proved me-
thods, we can cut down the in-
cidence of diseases caused by in-
sanitary environments, contam-
inated water, and improperly
handled foods. We can stage a
fight against flies and stop them
from spreading disease.
“We’re here to help,” the doc-
tor said.

NEED AN OFFICIAL
TEXAS MAP?
Need an official Texas map?
You will have an opportunity to
get one when you register your
car this year. The Texas High-
way Department in cooperation
with the County Tax Assessor-
Collector is once again offering
a free Official. Highway Map to
each registrant through a post
card plan inaugurated last year.
This service on the part of the
Highway Department and Coun-
ty Tax Assessor-Collector is in-
tended to provide a means by
which the Texas car owner can
get something extra for his re-
gistration fee. Those cooperat-
ing staee and county agencies
feel that every motorist who de-
sires one of the colorful official
maps is certainly entitled to it.
The Official Highway Travel
Map not only shows the 40,000
miles of state highways but
many of the Texas scenic high-
lights for the next vacation or
week-end trip. Chock-full of in-
formation, the map encourages
everyone to “See Texas First.”
Here is the way you may take
advantage of this opportunity.
Every Texas resident who re-
gisters his vehicle in the state
will be offered a return address-
ed post card at the same time
he purchases the 1952 license
plates. If the car owner so de-
sires, he may affix a two-cent
stamp to the card along with
his name and address and mail
it to the Highway Department.
In return, a free copy of the
colorful Official Highway Trav-
el Map will be dispatched to the
addressee.
Friday and Saturday were or-
chid days in Boerne through the

Co. Beautiful Vanda double-or-
chid corsages were distributed
to Boerne housewives. Mr. H.
M. Duncan is said to be the
largest single importer of or-
chids from Hawaii to this coun-
try.

TO THE VOTERS OF
BOERNE, TEXAS
Since submitting my name
for the office of Judge of Cor-
j oration Court, at the City elec-
tion to be held January 29th,
1952, there seems to be some
question in the minds of some
of the voters of the City of
-Boerne, as to wether I am eligi-
gle to hold this office and that
of Justice of the Peace, Precinct
No. 1.
Let me explain that when the
idea of establishing a Corpora-
tion Court was first brought up
some time ago, I made a trip to
Kerrville, and had a talk with
Judge Virgil Storms of that city,
who is at present holding both
positions. He gave me an opin-
ion written by the Attorney Gen-
eral of Texas, which was given
him to cover his case, in which
the Attorney General states
that it is perfectly legal for the
same person to hold both of
these offices.
This document is at present
in the hands of our City Attor-
ney, Mr. Floyd McGown, and he
concurs in the opinion.
This same arrangement is
now in effect in Kerrville and
several other smaller municipal-
ities over the state.
I certainly was not motivated
to seek this office by the hope
of any great material gain, since
the position will only pay $25.00
per month, but figured that a
combination of the two positions
might work .out to the advan-
tage^of all concerned.
