UNITED STATESPATENT OFFICE.
RAYMOND C. ROCHELLE, OF HUBBARD, TEXAS.
TYPE-WRITER COVER.Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 18,.1915.
Application filed February 3, 1914. Serial No. 816,271.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RAYMOND CASPER
RoCHELLE, citizen of the United States; re-
siding at Hubbard, in the county of Hill and
5 State of Texas, have invented certain new
and useful Improvements in Type-Writer
Covers, of which the following is a-specifi-
cation.
My invention relates to new and useful
10 improvements in collapsible cases or covers
for typewriters, being more particularly an
improvement over the form of cover dis-
closed in my copending application filed
September 3, 1913 and bearing the serial
15 No. 787,911, the primary object of my inven-
tion being. the provision of a cover which
may be more cheaply constructed and which,
at the same time, will be more efficient and
satisfactory. in use.
20 A further object of my invention is the
provision of a typewriter cover including a
base adapted to receive the typewriter and
a flexible hood or cover proper detachably
connected to the base and extensible over the
25 typewriter.
A still further object of my invention is
the provision of a' simple supporting frame
for the hood including a plurality of bows
detachably connected to the base and carry-
SO ing the hood, the base being provided with
integrally formed stops for limiting the
swinging movement of the bows, when they
are swung rearwardly to expose the type-
writer.
35 A still further object of my invention con-
sists in a novel means for securing a strip
or pad of felt or other soft material to the
base to prevent injury to desks, tables or
other articles of furniture upon which the
40 typewriter may be placed..
With these and other objects in view, my
invention will be more fully described, illus-
trated in the accompanying drawings and
then specifically pointed out. in the claims
45 which are attached to and form a part of
this application.
In the drawings :-Figure 1 is a longi-
tudinal sectional view taken through my im-
proved typewriter cover, a conventional
50 typewriter being shown in place; Fig 2 is
a fragmentary view similar to that shown in
Fig. 1 but showing the cover supporting
bows swung to rearward or open position
and the rear lower edge of the cover discon-
55 'nected from the base; -Fig. 3 is a fragmen-
tary perspective view of my improved .type-writer cover, the hood or cover proper being
shown.in dotted lines, while the base and
frame work are shown in full lines; Fig. 4
is a fragmentary top plan view, illustrating 60
the manner of mounting the bows upon 'the
base and the operation of the stop for lim-
iting their rearward and downward swing-
ing movement; Fig. 5 is a plan view of the
stamped out blank from which the metal 65
base is formed, a portion of the blank being
broken away to permit its showing upon an.
enlarged scale; Fig. 6 is a fragmentary sec-
tional view, showing a modified form of
key-hole slot and bow construction; Fig. 7 7o
is a fragmentary perspective view of the
bow illustrated in Fig. 6; Fig. 8 is a simi-
lar view, of a further modified form of bow;
Fig. 9 is a fragmentary sectional view, show-
ing a different method of attaching the cover 75
to the base.
In order 'to insure a clear and full under-
standing of my invention and the manner
of its use, I have illustrated my improved
typewriter cover in connection with a con- 80
ventional typewriter 10 having a plurality
of supporting feet 11. The typewriter cover
includes primarily a base 12, a plurality of
bows 13 swingingly connected to the .base
and a fabric hood or covering 14 secured to 85
the bows and detachably connected at one
edge to the rear edge of the base.
More specifically, the base is formed from
a sheet metal blank struck-out in a single
piece in the shape best shown in Fig. 5, the 90
blank being substantially rectangular in
shape with laterally directed wings 15 ex-
tending from its sides at its rear edge and
laterally directed tongues 16 extending from
its sides at its forward edge. Preferably, 95
the forward edge portion is cut-away cen-
trally as shown at 17 to lighten the con-
struction.
In forming the base from the above de-
scribed blank,' the rear portion of the blank, 100
namely that portion extending between the
wings 15, is bent upwardly at right angles
to the body of .the blank to form a flange or
back wall 18, after which the wings 15 are
swung inwardly to bear at their lower edges io5
upon the upper face of the body of the blank
when their reduced terminals 19 are bent
outwardly at right angles; to form stops to
receive the swinging bows 13, as will be
later more fully explained. The tongues 16 110
are then bent up at right angles to the body
portion in the manner best shown in Fig. 3.1,139,804.
