Mini College Night Pulls Large Response
The holidays were fast ap-
proaching and time was running
out for the year 2000. However,
several colleges were very coop-
erative and answered the call to
come to Shepherd High School’s
College Night 2000 on December
7, 2000. They were: Angelina
College of Lufkin, Lamar Univer-
sity from Beaumont, McNeese
State of Louisianna, Sam Hous-
ton State from Huntsville, and
Stephen F. Austin University
from Nacogdoches.
The students, parents and fac-
ulty responded equally well. Sev-
eral teachers offered extra credit
for students attending the college
night event. Over 100 students
attended and approximately 50
parents also came to peruse the
tables laden with brochures, free
pencils, pens and stickers. Most
of all, tips about financial aid and
helpful advice were exchanged.
Thanks to our wonderful food
service staff, punch and cookies
were liberally offered and ac-
cepted.
Principal Ray Rice and Coun-
selors Quinters Andrews and
Dorothy Dean have set March 12,
2001, for an even bigger and bet-
ter College/Career Night. “We
expect to fill the cafeteria on that
night from 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm,”
said Mr. Rice.

Liberty County Children’s Protective Services wants to say
“Thanks again” to Cleveland Wal-Mart for selecting them to be
the beneficiary of one of their fund-raising efforts. Edna Garrett
with Cleveland Wal-Mart presented the check in the amount of
$927.30 to CPS Board President Helen McMillian. “This is the
2nd year that I have had the honor to represent the CPS Board in
receiving a check from Wal-Mart for our kids,” said Helen. “This
is just one of the many ways that Wal-Mart comes to the aid of
these kids. We will be eternally grateful.”

Tarkington School
District Recognizes
School Board Members
Tarkington 1SD is extremely
fortunate to have seven individu-
als who take the education of
TISD students very seriously.
Our local school board consists
of Larry Allen, Tommy Dunn,
Jody Goodrum, Shane Gulledge,
Craig Morgan, Lynda Seale and
Mitch Stuckey.
School board members are our
neighbors who make education
their business, investing countless
hours of their time, and often their
own resources, to set direction for
our children and our school. They
are elected to establish policies
and set goals that reflect the be-
liefs of our community.
School board members are or-
dinary people who have an ex-
traordinary dedication to our pub-
lic schools. Our local board
members spend a great deal of
time working with parents, stu-
dents and educators to create the
educational vision we want for
our district. We want to thank
them for their loyal service.
Lynda Seale has been a board
member for 17 years. She has
watched our district grow from
1400 for 1700 students. She is
married to Jerry Seale, and has
one son, Troy, who graduated
i&smmmmmmmammummmmmi
from Tarkington.
Larry Allen has served TISD for
11 years. Larry is currently the
board president. Larry and his
wife, Lynn, have four children
who have been through
Tarkington schools.
Tommy Dunn was recently re-
elected to his 5th three-year term.
Tommy and his wife, Donna,
have 3 daughters currently en-
rolled at 3 different TISD cam-
puses.
Mitch Stuckey is serving his
2nd year as a board member.
Mitch’s wife, Lilley, is a district
employee. They have had chil-
dren and grandchildren as TISD
students.
Craig Morgan has been on the.
board for 2 years. He and his
wife, Gay, have 2 children; one
who has graduated and one at the
Middle School.
Shane Gulledge was elected to
the board in May. Shane and his
wife, Jennifer, a third grade
teacher, have one child in kinder-
garten.
Jody Goodrum was also elected
in May. Jody and Lea have a
daughter who graduated in 2000,
and a son in the tenth grade.
