There were several band activities that took place during
the Christmas holidays
On Dec 21. the band sponsored the Winter Ball Texas
Pride, from Corpus Christi, was Ihe band that played The
dance was a hig success with an overall total of 120 people
During one of Ihe band breaks. Santa Claus, played by Ed
Sciplc came and read "one of his many” Christmas lists for
some of the band members and guests The dance was over
at II p m and the officers, with help from several others,
came back Sunday and cleaned up
For those who made the regional hand, the clinic was
held Jan 3 and 4 Col Arnold Gabriel, director of the U S Air
Force Band, directed the symphonic band and Richard Cole
from Del Mar directed the concert band There was a concert
Saturday evening and both bunds did a very fine job
Col Gabriel, who is one of Ihe finest directors in the
country, and his "troops" are going on tour in April Their
first performance will be April 7 in Ihe Del Mar Auditorium
The concert is free and the public is urged to attend
Since football season is over, concert season has of-
ficially begun for the Wildcat Band This year there will be
three concert hands symphonic, concert, and cadet Mr
Vanlandingham will direct the symphonic and cadet bands
while Mr Medina directs the concert band The cadet band
w ill meet fifth period and the other two hands will continue to
meet sixth period
The present enrollment in each band is: Symphonic. 61,
concert. 65; and cadet, 43
As o( now all three hands will participate in Ihe U II,
Concert contest held April IB Gregory Portland will host the
P I L contest for class 2A and 4A bands this year Since we
will hold the contest in the (J P auditorium, the G-P bands
will he allowed to perform here also
This \ear looks very promising for Ihe G-P hands and
we re looking forward to a fine concert season
