Wildcats Win
It Was A Wild 60 Seconds
The tumult in the last few
minutes of the G-P and Tuloso
Kamo rose second by second
until a neutral observer would
have been swept off of his feel
as Wildcats supporters
exhorted (heir team to “hold"
and the Warrior loyalx cheered
their boys on to greater output
A whole football game was
crowded into just a bit over 60
seconds
The stage was set for the
frenried battle when the T-M
Warriors look over the football
on their own 23-yard line,
trailing 12-17, and made iheir
big bid for the winner's circle
and for a while it looked like
they would make it as Gary
Nesloney's passes began to
click, but he lofted just one too
many and Kd Sciple's sharp
fingers latched onto it to end
the Warrior dream The
Warrior fans deflated like a
punctured balloon while the G-
P fans went into orbit There
was no doubt about it, G-P was
definitely No 1
It was a hard fought game
and despite the closeness of
some of the statistics, the Cats
dominated most of the game
with their ball control tactics in
the form of Big Jim West, as he
chewed up the Warrior defense
for a total of 131 time-
consuming yards in 29 carries
Jim's high-running stance kept
the Wildcats in business most
of the night, He was held for no
gain on only two occasions
The Wildcats clearly
dominated the first half,
but with Nesloney passing
strikes the Warriors came
roaring back to make a contest
out of the game in the second
half with the final climax in
their 60-second bid for the
victory
Mario Montemayor came in
for his share of hero honors
with Sciple and West as he
covered two Warrior fumbles
that both led to a Wildcat score
He was rugged on defense,
getting his share of crucial
tackles of big Joel Rhyne and
Nesloney
G P struck first in the initial
quarter as Montemayor
recovered a Warrior fumble
near mid-field to break a T-M
threat West personally lugged
the ball six times in the TD
drive that finally saw him go
over from the three-yard line
After Pvatte converted G-P led
7-0
A pass interference penally
and a personal foul put the Cats
in hot water as the Warriors
mounted their next drive, but
fine line play finally forced a
punt and Ray Akins' crew went
to work from their own 20-yard
line
A pass, Coby Osborne to
Tommy Sherman, helped

loosen the Warrior defense but
the rest of the drive was ground
out with steudy punches by
West Sherman and Tommy
Albrecht with West slipping
over from the four-yard line to
score and give G P a halftime
lead of 14-0
The Warriors returned to the
field determined to play ball,
and they did as they unleashed
a 71-yard touchdown drive that
featured a drive with Nesloney
passing and running to per
fection A personal foul against
G-P set up a Warrior first down
on the 12 yard line and a couple
of plays later Rhyne went in to
picked up nine on a fake trying
to gam first down yardage It
failed and the Warriors look
over with 145 showing on the
clock
It was a long 77 yards to the
promised land for the
Warriors but Nesloney went to
work His first pass attempt
was good for 12 to Melvin
Rockholt and then he con
nected with Rhyne for 15 and
finally to Brad Miller for 35 and
a first down on the Cat 15-yard
line
Things looked bad for Akin's
crew with still one minute left
to play
