Lofpslatiou on tlio Strike
A bill na been drafted at Austin
which provides that railroads shall
glvo employes thirty days notice of re-
ductions In wages and that any Inter-
ference by word or deed with persons
working for a railroad shall subject tho
ollendor to a lino and imprisonment
Now let tho legislature forco tho rail-
roads to fulfill tholr charter obligations
to tho people and mako tho railroads
responsible for all damage resulting
from failure on their part to carry out
contracts Tho atuto owes it to tho
companies to protect their property

Tha Railrnd Responsible
If tho proposed reduction was not n
mutter of necessity the company Is
not only rtHonilulo for all thodamago

guilty of a gross Injustice to Its em

If tho reduction was a necessity tho

So far as tho people of Texas uro
concerned it does not matter that tho
tallroad lsabloor unable to pay any
given sum for any certain class of
work tho road Is under specllled obli-
gations to tho people and those obli-
gations should be fulfilled whether nt
n lost or at a prollt
Tho railroad owes It to tho pcoplo to

Tho legislature Is now in anslou lot

Tha charge or Insinuation or be-
lief that tho htato and caoh county In
tho stato will not protect tho railroad
In an effort to run Its freight trains Is
wone than bosh It is fahe and In-
dicative of a design deeper than that
which appears upon tho surface No
man may fay with contldouco that
thero Is ulterior1 motive to tho state of
nftalra resulting from tho action of tho
railroad but all men know that the
atnto will protect tto road and an af
