J^EWS WRITING styles have
- (hanged through the years
and, I guess, the changes come
under the heading of pi ogress.
But it must have been a whale
of a lot of fun for the editors
of decades past to straddle a
typewriter, for they worried
not about injecting a bit of
personal sentiment into their
news stories. Following aie
some “scoops" taken from an
issue of The Reporter publish-

A wedding story:
“Mr.- and Miss- sur-
prised their relatives and
friends Sunday by slipping over
to Thorndale and getting mar-
ried, Rev. Chapman, methodist
minister, tying the knot. There
were no objections to their
marriage except on the score of
youth, the bride being only 16
and the groom 17, and the
happy young couple were
quickly forgiven and will make
their home here. The Reporter
joins in extending congratula-
tions and best wishes for hap-
piness and prospciity.”

High society' story: -
('The home of Mr. and Mis.
was the scene of much
merriment last Thursday after-
noon when Ml—a-and —
entertained a number of their
friends with a 42 party. Four
tables of players enteied into
the games with great enthusi-

the 10 games Miss - was
found to be the winner of the
first prize, a dainty georgette
hanky. The hostesses again
proved themselves adepts at
entertaining."
