of Beta Sigma Phi held a
preferrential tea Sunday. Oct
28, in the home of Mrs Calvin
Glover
The chapter's membership
committee hosted the tea in
honor of the new pledges
Spiced tea. coffee, punch, petit
fours and mints were on hand
for refreshments
The purpose of this function
is to give the members and
pledges a chance to get
acquainted It also applies
toward points the International
office awards to chapters
holding this event At the end of
every year a chapter's yard
stick points are totaled and
given a one, two or three-star
rating Omega Kpsilon has
been a three star chapter for
several years

films related to the March of

a flower show school course V
held al the Corpus Christi
Council of Garden Clubs
Garden Center Oct. 23 and 24
The classes are given
principally for women training
to become flower show judges
although many attend for the
educational value
On Tuesday, (Jet. 23, the
class on horticulture was
taught by Mrs Garland Barcus
of Austin who spoke on
oleanders. African violets and
hanging baskets Mrs Barcus
showed her audience how to
prepare a specimen for entry
in a flower show and the
qualities the judges will con-
sider
On Wednesday, Oct 24. Mrs
John E Higgins of Checotah,
Okla, held a class on artistic
design, outlining the history of
flower arranging and
illustrating with arrangements
of free form design,
Mrs Higgins also gave a
program Friday, Oct. 26, on
collages designs of various
elements fastened to a
background, which may be
used in lieu of a picture in the
home.
