Drainage Problems Get
City Council Attention
A discussion of drainage in
the Portland Heights area
came up betore the City
Council Tuesday night.
Charles McEntire, local
builder and developer, sub-
mitted a letter to the council
asking relief for this area by
several methods. Mainly, he
sought the drainage of part of
this area by bringing the ditch
along l^ng road to grade level
so that it could drain toward
the East Cliff drainage ditch.
The council assured Mr.
McEntire that the matter was
due for immediate con-
sideration just as soon as the
concrete relining of the East
Cliff ditch was finished. The
state highway department
wanted to check the carrying
capacity of this concrete lined
ditch before dumping ad-
ditional water into it.
Several other points in-
volving cleaning exisiting
ditches was disposed of to Mr.
McEntire’s satisfaction.
L. T. Kolb, Jr., a member of
the Library Board, appeared
before the council and invited
them to attend Library open
house between the hours of 10
a.m. and 6 p.m. on Thursday,
April 29. The council took of-
ficial recognition of National
Library Week and praised the
work of the local group.
Authorization was given to
the mayor to sign for payment
of the Portland comprehensive
plan recently completed. This
plan charts Portland’s growth
until the year 1990.
The city manager was
authorized to advertise for a
depository for city funds.
Two rezoning requests were
approved on second reading.
The first was for commercial
zoning at Broadway and
Railroad and the other for
commercial at the corner of
Moore and Denver.
Passed for action at a later
date an ordinance regulating
theaters.
Approved the low bid of the
