Dear Friends,
Welcome to another exciting season of great music
at the Philharmonic! Our 66th season (and my
12th season with the Abilene Philharmonic) looks
to be our most exciting yet.
Even for those of you who regularly attend Abilene
Philharmonic concerts, our Guild's Gold Medallion
Ball, and other special concerts and events, I'll bet
there are some well-kept secrets about the Philhar-
monic that you might not know. For example, did
you know that every year, in October, the musicians
and I perform four specially programmed concerts
for our area 3rd through 5th graders, and more than
7,000 children attend those concerts each year, free
of charge?
This season the Philharmonic will collaborate with
outstanding student ensembles and faculty members
from four different universities, including all three of
our universities here in Abilene; we'll feature as solo-
ist our own principal cellist, Craig Leffer.
Even though our main mission is to present our fabu-
lous orchestra in concerts of great music, I think you
can see that the Philharmonic is doing a lot more
than meets the eye to serve our Abilene community.
These are some of the reasons that we so value your
presence here tonight, and your continuing support,
and why it is so important to keep the Philharmonic a
strong pillar of the arts in Abilene.
Enjoy!
With best
regards,
David Itkin
