Students have busy January
Douglass School students were
busy during the month of January
doing many interesting activities.
McBride’s Life Skills class had
a lesson in how to hit a golf ball at
the Cleveland Country Club
driving range on Jan. 23. Paul
Hendrix, owner of the club, presen-
ted the demoastration and let the
children have some practice time.
Robin Nichols and Aaron Lofg-
ren celebrated their birthdays with
all the Douglass students with cake
on Jan. 25. Happy Birthday Aaron
and Robin.
Bassett’s Early Childhood class
had a nice visit on Jan. 29 at the
Cleveland Public Library. The
children enjoyed browsing through
the books and checking out the
ones they like the best.
Mendez’s class visited the fire
station on Jan. 30. They were given
a tour of the fire station and the fire
trucks. Fireman Royce Melton took
time to give the children the tour.
Each Thursday of the month of
January, Douglass campus held an
open house for teachers from the
other four campuses to visit our
classrooms. “We would like to
thank all those who visited us and
hope they enjoyed meeting our
students,” a school spokesperson
said.
Several of older students go off
campus to vocational training sites
in die community each day. A
school spokesperson said, “We
would like to thank these busines-
ses for giving students the oppor-
tunity to train at their businesses.”
The following students had per-
fect attendance through the month
of January: Carl Browning,
Gregory Land, Michael Lape,
Robin Nichols, John Perry, Shelly
Stinson, Angel Choate, Lori
Dameron, Corinthian Green, Mar-
vin Hilton, Aaron Lofgren,
Latawdry Reed and Ryan Young.
The Employee of the Month for
January is Faye Smith. This is her
first year at Douglass as a teacher’s
aide. Smith goes out of her way to
do her job and anything extra that
needs doing. Smith is a very hard
worker who never complains about
extra duties assigned to her, ac-
cording to a school spokesperson
who added, “Everyone at Douglass
appreciates her hard work very
much.”
