PERSONAL FINANCES; —
When I was campaigning for the
Senate, I declared that I felt
Legislators should be required
periodically to report their sour-
ces of income. This would keep
the record straight when legisla-
tion was being considered which also have a
concerns the legislator’s pocket- stocks, almost too uninmportant
book. .to mention.
I introduced a bill which call-1 I vaguely recall having heard
ed for such reports, but it did that some folks have made mon-
salary as executive secretary of
the Committee of the Governing
Boards of State Colleges and
Universities, a voluntary and
private group interested in pro-
moting the public institutions of
higher learning. I resigned this
position at the start of the last
session, and I expect to do so a-
gain in January.
My primary asset is the old
family 320 acre farm-ranch in
Burnet County, part of which I
inherited, part of which I am in
the process of purchasing. The
only income it is providing right
now is a small rental on our old
home, as I’ve decided to let the
land rest awhile. It was leased
out prior to last July.
ODDS AND ENDS: I have
some savings in mutual funds,
though I have had to dip into
them twice since I was elected. I
few miscellaneous
not get out of committee. I am
not hopeful that such a measure
could be passed any time soon. I
still think it’s a good idea.
During my campaign I also
stated that I, personally, would
issue a statement from time to
time while I was in office reveal-
ing sources of my own income,
even though it was not manda-
tory.
INCOME REPORT: Therefore
although my situation is essen-
tially unchanged since my last
report, I shall review it here
briefly.
As Senator, I receive a $400
per month salary. I also draw a
eny after getting into politics.
So far, it seems I’ve gone in the
other direction.

Auesrian Winter Peas
Alex Soell of Comfort has a
field of Austrian winter peas
that are growing, very nicely.
These peas were interplanted
with oats. Soell will top dress
this field with 200 pounds of 21-
0-0 fertilizer per acre.
*****
To Plant More Coastal
E. F. Springer plans to plant
15 acres of coastal bermuda this
winter. Springer planted 3 acres
of bermuda this past spring and
found it made an exceptionally
good growth for a poor year. He
fertilized it heavy in August
with nitrogen fertilizer and it
greatly increased its growth.
The new land he plans to sod
will be kept disc harrowed till
about February, then sodded
while springs are still dormant.
*****
Cuts Cedar
Richard Lindner is cutting
second growth cedar on his ran-
ch south of Comfort. Lindner re-
alizes that his range grasses
need the moisture that the cedar
uses, and that the cedar is easier
to control with less expense
while small that it will be later.
*****
Builds New Terrace
Bruno Ooelkers has recently
completed a terrace in the field
on his ranch north of Sister-
dale. This terrace was construc-
ted with farm equipment. It was
well constructed and will be easy
to farm.
*****
Good Seed Crop
Milam LeBleu reports a heavy
seed crop on the grass he seed-
ed 2 years ago on the Oetter-
mann ranch west of Boerne. He
has grazed the fields part of
each year since seeded, but still
permits each field 3 to 4 mon-
ths rest to permit grasses to
seed and to maintain a healthy
growth.
