Things are in a turmoil here what with a visiting General on the Post
and the Formal Inspections. One would think they might let up a
little but NO, NEVER! I wasn't scheduled to fly this morning so have
had to hide myself. I'm practically buried in maps, just in case an
E.O. comes around, plotting courses.
We all thought Hanger I, XC, would be a bit of fun after beating our
few brains our for 5 months, but--what happens to W-10? The Army
dropped in with no notice and spot checked over half the flight
yesterday on Transition. Then today we are informed that everyone
has to shoot a 90 degree stage tomorrow afternoon (Sat), I think
what brought this on might be because a W-9 girl was fatally injured
a few days ago on a XC some place in Mississippi. The details we got
were that she circled a small town for 1 1/2 hours. By then it was
dark. Then she tried to land and hit high tension wires and crashed
into a knoll. The ship didn't burn though. She would have graduated
November 6th.
We probably will not get any XC trips north because of the cold
weather. Have heard we'll go to Blyth, California on our 2,000 mile
hop. Have heard nothing definite on the uniform deal as yet;
however, W-9 was issued the full amount so chanches are we will be
too.
We get to keep most of our Ground School books because we're the last
class. Also PIF's. We take our 50-3 Exam one week from today. Have
to pass it to get the "white card", and also have to pass it to
graduate.
Finished Weather Wednesday so only have Navigation and Aero Equipment
in Ground School. The first one is a snap and the latter goes over
my head which means Ground School is no longer a worry.
Someone just announced that our free hour this P.M. would be used for
review for the 50-3 Exam.

We have an Engine Final tonight at 8:30 P.M., and we have to eat
before then. As for things here--we are really being
pushed all of the sudden. Last week I took a 2 hour Map Reading
Cross Country and didn't fly again (no planes) until yesterday when I
went on my f!i rst[ 2 hour XC with my Instructor . Today, I'm up for an
Army Check on XC. It was short but I screwed it up quite well. From
here to Winters, and supposed to go to Brownwood, but he decided he
didn't want to go that far so said pick up a heading for Abilene.
Well----we got there eventually. Then changed ships with solo
students and flew back via Stamford for my first solo XC. I don't
know whether he passed me or not. He certainly shouldn't have--as
usual. Besides it was the same Check Pilot I had for Transition.
We fly AT XC tomorrow morning and then check out in the PT tomorrow
afternoon. Also fly all day Sunday, then VanDaell and I are going
Buddy in the PT to San Antonio Monday for the Pressure Chamber Test.
Can't fly for some hours after that so probably will get back here
Wednesday. Half of the Flight goes Monday and the other half the
latter part of the week.Am on the entertainment committee for W-9's party next Saturday
