CASUALTY INSURANCE
As will be seen by a card in nnother
column the American casualty insuranoe
nnd security company of Baltimore city
with a capital of one million dollars
51000000 and a cash surplus of one
half million dollars 5500000 has been
licensed to transact business in this stnte
by the insurance department This
company organized by prominent busi-
ness men active in the management of
large Insurance interests throughout the
country having stockholders and direc-
tors comprising some of tho wealthiest
and most iulluential merchants and
bankers of Baltimoro and New York is
provided with a charter sulhcieutly
broad to euablo it to occupy a position
second to none nmong insurance organ-
izations of the world The company will
do n general accident business not con
llncd to the limitations of what is gener-
ally known ns accident insurance but
vwll introduce original uudattraotive fea-
tures which cannot fail to commend
themselves to tho intelligent insuring
public Employers particularly will
be Interested in the plan ot insuring
atruinst all liability on nccoutit of the
personal injury or death of employes re-
sulting from auy and every accident
happening to them while iu active ser-
vice or this insurance may be effected
when tho employer is not liable and
may also include his liability toward tho
public in ense ot accident Another dis-
tinct feature is protection to steam users
throughout the country agaiust all prop-
erty losses caused by accident to or by
boilers engines elevators steam pipes
automatic sprinklers or other specified
mathinery In connection with this
subject it is well to mention the few
exigencies which have arisen and may
again occur to demonstrate the value ot
tho protection offered by this company
This unique scheme protects ngainst loss
by fire flood explosion earthquake
cyclones and nil conceivable casualty or

directors furnishes reasonable assurances
of its prosperity
DOOMED TO AX EARLY DEATH
It becomes more and more npparent
that the subtreasury scheme is doomed
even among the farmers themselves
Discussion of its merits or rather its de-
merits has developed such inherent
weakness and rottenness in tho out-
landish thing that they who nt first
hailed it as a grand charter guarantee-
ing renewed life nnd prosperity to tho
farmer now begin to doubt its wisdom
and suspect that it is not what it was
cracked up to be Liko all other fads
or willo thowlsps it rose out of the
murklncss enveloping a distressed
class lived its brief hour and is
now rapidly passing out of sight
There was nothing surprising nbout it
for phantasmas of equally ephemeral
natures are continually being born only
to dazzle for n moment and then be
swallowed up in darkness Tls so or
will be with this latest product of the
fens and marshes We read not long
ago that In some congressional districts
of the South zeal in Its behalf was Hog-
ging sensibly and opposition to candi-
dates who refused to pledge themselves
to it was abating In this state even
an Influential minority in a convention
of the state Alliance hold at Dal-
las a few weeks ago was able
to prevent the insertion In the
platform of a subtreasury plank That
was proof positive that there is not by
any means such ardor for It among Texas
farmers ns expected a year ago when it
was the paramount Issue with tbo Alli-
ance and all other demands were sub-
sidiary to it John G Carlisle had not
then thrown the calcium light of his pow-
erful Intellect on it nnd all who regarded
themselves as beneficiaries to be of It
looked upon It as a fortunatuspurse
destined to pour money Into their gaping
pockets It is not so now
Hence we are not surprised to learn that
President Erwin of the state Farmers
Alliance of Kentucky haspublicly stated
bis disapproval of it He has weighed
carefully the arguments pro and con
and analyzed the measure in all its parts
nnd after mature deliberation Is satisfied
that it ts far from being the glorious cor-
nucopia imagined by come thousands of
credulous nnd unretlecting souls When
the highest official in a state Alliance
and the executive thereof puts himself
on record so clearly and unequivocally
agaiLst It we may be sura that he has
the best of reasons for so doing as we
know he has and that backed by irre-
futable he does not hesitate
arguments
to face tho subtreasury clamor nnd risk
bis position and standing in the order by
attempting to bring his followers to a
olear sense of what they are asking for
President Erwins emphatlo opposition
to the measure will encourage others of
bis official brethren to take a similar
standi and before long we shall hear but
little more about It The phantasm will
have disappeared and little or no mem-
ory of It will remain behind
