The Golden Rules For Food Rationing
With time drawing near for
beginning of point rationing, the
government is anxious that Ameri-
cans on the Home Front not only
uderstand the mechanics of the
program, but also understand the
reasons behind the plan. Consumers
can make or break the program,
depending on their attitude toward
the idea of share-and-share alike.
Here are the Golden Rules of
food rationing:
1. Share your food with fighters
protecting your home.
2. Don’t hoard anything. Accept
rationing cheerfully—help make it
work.
3. Learn to use your ration book
right. Use the 8 and 5 point stamps
In settlement when possible, re-
serving the 1 and 2 point stamps
for low point articles. Your store-
keeper cannot give you “change” In
stamps.
4. Use your point stamps wisely
--don’t run short of stamps by
buying ‘ high point" foods where
“low point” foods will do. Buy only
what you need.
5. Plan your family’s diet care-
fully—plan menus ahead for a week
or a month—see that everyone gets
enough nourishment.
fl. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables
Instead of canned, bottled and fro-
zen. Use the more plentiful non-
rationed foods whenever you can.
7. Lighten congestion In the
stores—shorten the waiting line at
the cash register by shopping early
in the day and early in the week.
8. Don’t complain if your favorite
food is all gone. Select your best
choice and enjoy It. This is war.
9. Plant a Victory Oarden--all
you can care for.
10. Do all the home canning pos-
sible, according to your family’s
needs.

War Bonds Not To
Be ‘Frozen’ State
Administrator Savs
No Foundation To Rumor That
Bonds To Be “Frozen” For
Period Of Ten Years After
End Of Current Conflict
Frank Scofield. War Bond Ad-
ministrator for Texas, in a recent
letter to all county chairmen,
issued a statement for the purpose
of dispelling certain rumors on
“freezing” of War Bonds.
Declaring that rumors are re-
ported to be circulating to effect
that the privilege of cashing War
Bonds is to be revoked and that
they are to be “frozen” for a
period of ten vears following the
War. Mr. Scofield emphasized tv
'act that there Is no basis wha*
ever for such rumors.
“War Saving Bonds, by their
exoress terms, are payable on spe-
cified dates and are redeemable
before such dates, at the option of
the owners, at fixed redemnion
values’’, explained Mr. Scofield
“The obligation of the United
States to pay before maturity, at
the option of he owners, in accor-
dance with the terms of the bonds
is quite as binding as its obligation
to pay at maturity.”
"One month’s notice, in writing,
is now required for redemption of
Series F and G l>onds. and this has
been the cause from the time of
their first issuance”, reminded Mr.
Scofield.
"The only posslb’e basis for such
rumors, so far as can be ascertain-
ed. Is the reservation in the offerine
circular that a reasonable notice
in case of presentation of bonds of
Series E for redemtlon prior to
maturity may be required. No re-
gulation in such respect has been
made, and if one is made in the
future you may be sure that it will
only require reasonable notice”,
stated the administrator.

Uniform Air Raid
Warning Drawn Up
A uniform air raid warning
signal sysem drawn up by the War
Department and the Office of Civi-
'ian Defense to permit earlier
blackout and mobilization of civi-
lian protection personnel, and to
afford greater protection to the pu-
blic, became effective throughout.
Texas at 12:01 A. M. Wednesday.
February 17.
Principal features which need to
be observed by local citizens in-
clude a preliminary audible “Blue”
warning signal consisting of a long,
steady blast on the air raid siren;
an audible “Red" warning signal
consisting of a rising and falling
sound on the siren; and a second
“Blue” signal.
A Blue signal may not always
precede a Red signal. There may
not be time enough. But a Blue
signal always follows a Red signal.
The Blue signal blast will i>e two
minutes In length.
No special ALL CLEAR signal has
yet been precribed for the state.
If a raid should come at night,
street lights will be turned on to
signify ALL CLEAR.
