FOCAL NEWS IN BRIEF.
remuneration in the cultivation of
fruit and vegetables, while making a
lovely home for himself and family.
He believes that a bright future is in
store not only for Aransas Harbor but
also for this entire peninsula, and is
content to stake his means and energy
on the result.
This immediate section is settling-
up very rapidly. The Herald has
information from strictly reliable
sources that nearly one hundred fam-
ilies will locate on the lands near
Aransas Harbor, during this Fall and
Winter. Nearly all of these will turn
their attention to growing fruits and
vegetables.
GLAD TO GET BACK.
Mr. Davies Reports Dull Times in Nortli-
western Arkansas.
The Herald received a pleasant
call from Mr. C. A. Da vies, who has just
returned from Fayetteville, Arkansas,
whither he was recently summoned
on account of the severe illness of his
wife. We are pleased to announce
that Mrs. Davies is rapidly recovering;
her improved condition justifying the
return of her husband to ' Aransas
Harbor and to business.
Mr. Davies remarked to the editor of
The Herald that he was never before
so glad to return to any place as he
was to get back to Aransas Harbor;
that during his absence he has con-
stantly longed for the balmy, health-
giving breezes of this coast, and which
seem more delicious at Aransas Har-
bor than at any other point he has
ever visited. He further stated that
Southwest Texas was in better and
more prosperous condition than many
places he had visited.
Mr. Davies reports very dull times
in Northwest Arkansas. The crops
were very fine, and the yield unsualiy
large, but they are not selling for
enough to pay the cost of production.
Corn sells for 20 cents per bushel ; the
best apples 25 cents per bushel; and
other farm products are proportion-
ately cheap. The people are discon-
tented and are talking of coming to
Southwest Texas. To these The
Herald says : Come right along, gen-
tlemen ; this is the place for the farm-
er. .And, really, we cannot see why
you have not long since sought this
delightful land where health, happi-
ness and prosperity is assured the in-
dustrious tiller of the soil.
HOTEL HOYT.
What a Commercial Traveler Thinks of
It.—A Genuine Hotel Man in Charge.
The following letter was clipped
from the Texas Commercial Traveler
of the 8d inst., and explains itself:
Gregory, Texas, Sept. 26, 1891.—
Enclosed twenty-six (26) coupons
clipped from that number of copies of
the Texas Commercial Traveler, which
you will please cast for the new Hotel
Hoyt, just opened at Aransas Harbor,
Texas. She is a daisy, and no mis-
take ; the neatest, prettiest and best
managed hotel in all this part of the
State. Nothing else like it on the en-
tire coast, and precious few (if any) as
good in the entire State. And they
have a real, genuine hotel man in
charge. To an old traveling man, like
mj^self, it’s a pleasure to strike such a
house occasionally. And at one “fell
swoop” I want to raise it above the
twenty-five limit, ere it is too late.
The boys will agree with me when
they have a chance to see for them-
selves, as I have done. Yours, etc.,
Buck.
• MR. BOYETT’S LOCATION.
He Will Have a Delightful Suburban
Home Near Aransas Harbor.
Mr. E. W. Boyett has purchased a
valuable tract of land fron the Aransas
Harbor City and Improvement Com-
pany, and will immediately improve
and prepare same for a permanent
home for himself and family. This
beautiful and fertile tract is situated
near the city, and is peculiarly adapted
to fruit and vegetable culture, to which
pursuits Mr. Boyett intends to devote
himself. He was indeed fortunate in
his selection, and in securing a piece
of land so desirable, and in every way
so well suited for a delightful home as
well as for fruit and vegetable grow-
ing. The sale was made by Messrs.
Mackey & Campbell, one of the most
enterprising and successful real estate
firms in Aransas Harbor.
HE BACKS HIS OPINION.
The publication of The Herald
this week is unavoidably delayed. Our
force is short, and we are crowded
with job work. Under the circum-
stances we ask the indulgence of our
patrons, and hope by extra work to
get out on time next week.
Quite a number of our young people
have planned a visit to Boekport
Saturday night.
Subscribe for The Herald. Every
family in the county should have the
benefit of its weekly visits.
j The weather is deiightful. No one
Could avoid falling in love with a
country so blessed as this. No other
land has so many bright and balmy
days.
There has been unusual activity in
the real estate market during the last
week. A large number of prospectors
are in the field, and several good deals
have been-made.
Mr. F. W. Wagner, the enterprising
truck farmer, lias splendid prospects
for a fine crop of vegetables of various
kinds. His late crop of watermelons
will soon begin to ripen.
The truck farmers are all getting
along nicely with their Fall crops.
Present indications are favorable for
large shipments from this vicinity the
coming Winter and Spring.
Some of our experienced sportsmen
predict a splendid winter for game.
Those at a distance who want to enjoy
a few weeks of fine shooting should
come direct to Aransas Harbor.
Mrs. E. J. J. Collins, principal of
the Aransas Harbor public schools,
informs us that the school work is sat-
isfactorily progressing in all respects,
except the unexpected delay in receiv-
ing the school furniture. * We trust
this deficiency will be remedied very
soon.
The cold wave at the North will
drive the ducks and geese Southward
and we may expect them in large
numbers from this time forward.
This is, indeed the hunters’ paradise.
There is a great variety and abundance
of game, in this vicinity, and the best
hotel accommodations on the coast, at
Hotel Hoyt, for the benefit of hunters.
Acreage at a great bargain. Three forty, two
twenty and live ten-acre tracts, unsurpassed
for productiveness, beautifully located, near
the ebb and flow of the cea’sless tide; near
Aransas Harbor and depot. It will pay to in-
vestigate this property quick. Terms easy.

CITY AND IMPROVEMENT COMPANY, as
well as the Board of Directors of said Company,
are urgently requested to meet at the office of
the Company, in the city of Aransas Harbor,
on
Thursday, the m Day of October, I89i.
Owing to some changes in business arrange-
ments which existed between the Aransas Har-
bor City and Improvement Company and other
corporations, it has become necessary that all
stockholders of our Company should assemble
for a general conference.
It has been the purpose of the Aransas Har-
bor City and Improvement Company from the
very first to aid in securing deep water over the
Aransas Bar, and build here a great commer-
cial city. It has never, for one moment,
wavered in that purpose, and is just as much
determined now as at any previous period to
cany out its original intentions.
We can and must push to completion the
work we had expected others to do.
As many important questions will he submit-
ted to the stockholders, every one is earnestly
requested to he present and participate in this
meeting.

during the last few days, special men-

Mr. Alex. Smith, who purchased a fine
tract near the city limits. His choice
was made with a view to improvement
for permanent residence; and it is his
purpose to engage in fruit and vege-
table culture. For the successful pros-
ecution Of these industries every con-
dition of this locality is favorable, and
he believes that large profits will be
realized if proper attention is given
same. This will add another to the
numerous truck farms which will soon

Adamsville is a beautiful village of 1,000 or
1,200 inhabitants, situated in the midst of a
good agricultural aud fruit-growing country,
with the best of freestone or soft water; well
timbered, with the different varieties of oak,
hickory, yellow poplar, black walnut, locust,
red-bud, cedar, dogwood, wild cherry, mul-
berry, etc., etc.
Apples, peaches, pears, plums, quinces,
cherries, grapes, etc., etc., all grow to per-
fection.
Adamsville is situated just four (4) miles
west of the Tennessee river, where large river
steamers land daily the year round. The town
is located in a beautiful level country, suffi-
ciently undulating to insure perfect natural
drainage. It is ninety miles east of Memphis;
flfty miles southeast of Jackson, Term.; twen-
ty-live miles northeast of Corinth, Miss.; and
it is only about three miles northwest to an in-
exhaustible supply of high-grade iron ore.
The town is directly on the line of railroad
leading from Chicago to Birmingham, Ala.,
and thence to Savannah, Ga., which has a gap
of only 83 miles yet to he constructed to com-
plete the entire line.
It is an excellent place to establith either a
cotton or woolen factory, or other manufactur-
ing enterprises, as there is abundant water-
power near the town.
The society is good. There are four nice
churches now finished, and others are talked
of. There is also a large college located here,
which has had an average yearly attendance of
from 150 to 200 students, and growing more
popular from year to year.
My lots are near the business centre and front
on three of the principal streets. They are
level, and are suitable for either business or
residence purposes. In every respect this is one
of the best and mo3t desirable portions of the
town. -The best of pure, soft water can be had
on any of these lots at a depth of from 25 to SO
feet below the surface.
This property is free from all incumbrance of
any nature; and I am prepared to give a perfect
title to each lot—a general warranty deed, with
clear abstract of title accompanying same.
Some of the lots are improved. The town of
Adamsville is experiencing a very satisfactory
growth; and when the Chicago and Savannah
Railroad reaches the town, property will ad-
vance very rapidly. The Southern terminus is
now only 43 miles-distant, with the work pro-
gressing in a satisfactory manner.

We are pleased to learn that the en-

cially and socially. The occasion was
greatly enjoyed by all the participants,
and we are informed that about $40

noble ladies who managed the enter-
