DEANNA WEST
DEANNA WEST, SENIOR AT KHS, NAMED AS ONE OF SIX DAR GOOD CITIZENS
Deanna West has re-
cently been named as
# one of six high sch-
ool seniors to be ch-
osen as DAR Good Cit-
izens for 1982. The
announcement was made
by Corsicana's
James Blair DAR chap-
ter. Chapters though-
out the state nomin-
ate candidates for
^ selection of Texas'
entry in the national
DAR Good Citizen
scholarship competit-
ion.
According to an art-
cle in the Corsicana
Daily Sun "Deanna is
the daughter of Mr.
P and Mrs. Sammy West.
She plans a career in
secretarial work aft-
er attending college
for one or two years.
At school she serves
as Beta Club presid-
ent and Student Coun-
cil reporter, has
been freshman class
j secretary, band lib-
rarian and band pre-
sident in her junior
year. Besides band,
Student Council and
Beta Club endeavors,
she has also partici-
pated in track, one-
act play and rodeo-
ing and is a member
0 of the Kerens Riding
Club.
She also was named
to the Society of
Distinguished Ameri-
can High School St-
udents, received a
UIL award in spel-
ling and was chosen
rodeo queen.
She is a member of
her church youth ch-
oir, an MYF officer,
helps with her ch-
urch’s annual Lord's
Acre Bazaar and help-
ed as a youth planner
for the Kerens Cen-
tennial celebration
which was observed
last year."
The Tribune joins
with others in the
community in saying
"congratulations"
to Deanna.
R. E. LOGAN TO SERVE ANOTHER TERM
AS PRESIDENT OF LOCAL CHAMBER
By acclamation, R.
E. Logan was retain-
ed, Monday night, to
serve another term
as president of the
Kerens Chamber of
Commerce.
Gooley Orr was ele-
cted to serve as •
vice president and
Pee Wee Collins, al-
so by acclamation,
will continued as
treasurer.
The final meeting
of 1982 was a meet-
ing of old and new
directors. Those
present, in additi-
on to Logan and Sec-
retary Nora Lee May.,
were: Don Paschal, .
James Kelley, Homer
Gene Wasson, Caleb
Jackson, Gooley Orr,
Wayne Kittley, R. A.
Bain, Pee Wee Col-
lins, Lloyd Smith,
Burton Sneed, Donna
York and a guest,
Jimmie Spencer.
Logan welcomed the
new directors: Sn-
eed, Jackson, Was-
son and Layfield,
who will be serving
two-year terms and
Smith who will serve
for one year.
Those going off
the board are: Pasc-
hal, Kittley, Linda
Brown, Don Sulli-
van, York, Bain and
Carroll.
The board noted that
the Christmas Cele-
bration netted the
Chamber approximate-
ly $1200 in addition

of Commerce will host
its annual banquet on
January 8, at 7 p.m.
The event will be
held in the Kerens
School Cafeteria.

ager for United Tele-
phone Company of Tex-

Watson has been with
United Telephone of
Texas since 1970 and
has held positions

He has a wife, Car-
ie, and two children;
Stacey (7) and Kel-
ly (5). His hobbies
include golf, fish-
ing, painting, wood
carving and wood
working.

was noted that
everything has been
tended to.
Tickets ($6) for
the event which will
be January 8 are now
on sale and may be
purchased at the Ch-
amber office or from
any, director.
The board reviewed
two bids for the
painting of the
entry signs for the
highway. With a $300
difference between
the two bids, the
board tabled any
further action un-
til more bids can
be secured.
Spencer, Commissio-
ner for Precinct 2,
addressed the group
and told of plans
for Task Force
to study the many
problems that will
be arising from the
developments of the
new lake. He stated
that citizen input
will be greatly
needed and said
that members of the
Task Force will be
announced shortly
after the first of
the year. He added
that Kerens will
certainly need to
play a major part
in this; he stated
that they want to
make sure that local
citizen\ry will rule
the lake, not tnat
the lake will rule
the local citizen-
ry.
The meeting adjour-
ned with a reminder
that no formal meet-
ing will be held in
January.
