Road Water Is Aid
To Terraced Field
(IBy J. A. Barton, Co. Agent)
Tom Holmslev states that- this
year he eftimates that at least
ten bushels Uf oats will be made
on his 40 acre field that is
located about two miles out on I
the Lake Road, over and above ‘
what it would have ma^e if it j
had rot been terraced nine years
ago. ■>: ‘
Mr. Holrusley states that he
finds the road water sn aid to 1
his place for he has well run and
constructed terraces that catch -
the road water and spreads this
water over a large flat area and
lets it remain until it soaks up
a good bottom season. Mr. Holms- ‘
ley said that a number of grain
men who had looked over his
oats said that they would make
1 on an average uf 65 to 60 bn.
per acre and along the distance
where the road water was spead
will make from 80 to 90. bushels
per acre.
Mr. Holmslev also believes in
good seed and this year has
j planted second year Kortex Oats
from the Denton Station. These
oats'arte yielding splendidly on Co-
manche County farms and testa
show in many fields over the
county that the Nortax oats yield
i from 5 to 20 bushels increase
.per acre over other oats,
j Mr. Holmslev states that later
he intends to invite all farmers
in this county to this farm and
point out a number of results
that has been obtain, on the land
bv a system of terraces. He said
