THE PRESIDENT IS DEAD
LONG LIVE THE PRESIDENT
FRANKLIN DELANO ROOSEVELT
"Our great president is dead. His vast and far-seeking work for
America and the oppressed peoples of the world must go on under
the guidance of our new president If, in this hour Of dark loss,
any word of ours could bring hope and faith, we would gladly
speak it. Our hope, and our loyal support without stint in defense
of that hope, now lies with our new President.
No man's capabilities are proved until he is put to the test.
Many a man in American history has emerged from obscurity to
greatness when history has called upon him to take a leading part.
History is calling on Harry Truman as it has rarely called upon
HARRY S. TRUMAN
a man before. We hope and we pray that Harry Truman will be
as great as this opportunity demands.
We, as American citizens, have an obligation to lend every
support, aid and assistance to the man who is now our President—-
the man who succeeds one of the greatest figures in world history.
America has greater cause than at any time since Pearl Harbor
to be a united nation, striving for a common objective—the
winning of the Victory and the establishment of the Peace.
