DISSECTING A POPULAR
SONG
Did you ever dissect a popu-
lar song? H'ake* this c . i;
instance:
.“They were strolling the
Moonlight,
A man and maid;
Ha 1 coked iinto her -.:-ves of
11 blue V-
And was a bit afraid.
Then he gently pre.- .d her
hand
And stole a kiss so .sweet,
While the moon looked
down
Upon , the maid so neat.”
Take this song line for line:
“They Were strolling in the
moonlight, a man and maid.”
Mark you, it was a man and
maid who were stroh ng. It
wasn’t a couple of. cows or
„ bunch of cats that were'strol-
ling. It was a man and maid.
But why were they scrolling, j
this man and maid? Didn’t-
they have a home? It seems!
not They were “strolling,” |
. wherever that* is. Then he-
“looked into her eyes of blue
and:- was a bit afraid.’h What j
washhe afraid of? What was;
in Her eyes that he was afraid j
of? Maybe she carried a bull-j
dog or a gattling gun there. |
or a bunch of small pox. The
song doesn’t state what she
had in her eyes, but one look,
for him was enough.
“Then he gently pressed her
hand,” Again, mark' you, he'*
pressed her hand. Not a suit
of clothes or an overcoat, -but |
he pressed her hand. And
you notice he pressed it gently,
too. He was still afraid ofj
what, was in her eyes. He did-1
n't d^re to get rough with her,:
so he gently pressed her hand.
But which hand is not stated.
It might have been her west
hand or her east hand, t Per-
haps the maid only had one
hand. Poor girl! _ Then he
“stolen a kiss so sweet.” Ho ]
stole, it, the scoundrel! Was- ]
n’t he the awful villian? But •
what did 4ie steal it for? That J
kiss was waiting for him. Alt *
he had to. do was ask for it 1
and it was His. But no, he 1
had to commit burglary. But
