There appears to be a slight let up in
the wholesale dry goods trade in Fort
Worth attributable merely to the usual
fluctuations in business of the country
All other lines ot Jobbers are doing heavy
business there appearing to be a greater
weight to the crdors coming in than had
hitherto been observed denoting an in
crease of confidence in provincial dealers
In the stability ot existing custom
The ccurce being pursued by wheat
buyers in Fort Worth as compared with
thoso ot cotton is full of interest
to those farmers who maiket
their products in Fort Worth While the
cotton quotations are fluctuating with
every transient whisper over the wires
from matufacturicg centers the wheat
market varies bu slightly notwithstand
ing unprecedented upheavals at the
northern and eastern trading points
When wheat was depressed in Cnicago
the Fort Worth mills were
paying better prices than
the northern farmers were receiving
now that wheat in the north has taken a
bi jump this market is but slghtly
affected by it from which it may be seen
that Texas buyers are a law unto them
selves that thty are Independent of
northern speculators that they are
able and will pay good prices
for all that is marketed with
them clthough not willing to meet
tae uareasocaole acd unprofitable figures
that have been br > ugat oat in the north
by speculator by whom Texas buyers
are not In any way affected On the
other hand est n is unstable Tae
firmer in Texas with eight or ten acres

of the crop planted ia Iadla and the fliw
of tne Nile in Eiypt before he can ba mre
hl3 crop is worth anything to him
and he frequently Aids it is not
Wheat is a crop for which
good prices are assured in Texas while
cjttou is to say the least uncertain
Wheat today has been worth 1 per

to morrow very probable

For the first time in many months mer
chants are borrowing larger sums ot
money on the NwYoik market Dis
counts are quoted at to CI per cent
and a considerable quantity of good paper
is going on tne market This is a good
sign or at least it is so regarded by lead
ing authoilties ItiShows that trade is
reviving and that the fears that the presi
dential campaign is going to interfere
with general prosperity are not well
fjnnded
High dices for wheat and an immense
corn crop assured will give the United
States a tiood dea of prosperity to the
tqnare mile during the coming winter
